layers of life and of living. grateful for this place, this space, and these rhythms. always perplexed by the seasonality of all things - beginnings and ends, days and nights, pain and relief, sorrow and excitement, grief and joy. moving in, splitting up, moving across, termination, opportunity, forgiveness, wholeness, hurt.

aren’t we such magnificent beings to hold all this at once? by @therapybyjguy

I met @morganharpernichols accidentally in 2018, seated around a table at Kalamata in the old city of Jaffa. A friend was visiting with a creatives tour group and she, among other rising creatives in the online world, was seated around the same table.

It wasn’t until after dinner that I realized that the initials under each piece of work an anonymous artist I’d been following (MHN) were the same as hers.

I’ve never been so interested in meeting celebrities - humans the world knows about but they have nothing to do with.

But I was so intrigued by her. She was a human I knew not much about, but each piece of her art made me feel as if she knew me.

Thank you @morganharpernichols 🤍 Your work has and continues to move me in this life. by @therapybyjguy

Therapy can be a great (and quite painful) discovery of the ways we thought we needed to ‘be’ in order to make it through life.

‘If I’m not stubborn, no one will ever hear or cede to my opinion’. A deep pain of not being considered or listened to.

‘If I withdraw first, they can’t hurt me’. A deep fear of being left, open hearted, raw, and alone.

‘I’ll be perfectly on time, so I can never be accused of being disrespectful’. A core belief that love is something we must earn, and nothing ever suffices.

In realizing our own blindspots, we are invited to change the parts of us that have often times become the gravitational centres of our lives.

We can disentangle ourselves from perfectionism, although we run the risk of not being loved by those who perpetually need proof that we love them.

We can relinquish our stubbornness, and come into new relationships learning how to communicate in a way we never had the opportunity to.

We can stay in uncertainty, knowing that leaving early hurts us just as much as it pains others.

Change asks that we risk not knowing for a moment. And promises that we will learn something even juicier on the other side. taken in The Clinic at Therapy Tel Aviv by @therapybyjguy

Sometimes grief finds its most sincere expression in metaphor, or in connecting to what we perceive but can’t quite see.

Sometimes grief is feeling the darkness after the sun has set. Sometimes grief is found in the slow loss of the sun’s light over the horizon. Sometimes grief is embraced by sending the sun to a person or part of the world that you miss.

Sometimes it folds over us, sometimes we lose again, and sometimes we allow it space to grow graciousness and love.

There are, in a piano composition, moments of music and moments of silence. Our human experience is in being present to the silence so that we might distinguish which notes are being played.

You are the sky. What stillness might you find in the midnight moon or the morning sun to observe the weather roaring through you?

Polishing off a month of seeing ideas, dreams, and visions come to life. More than that, we heard time and time again the desire for mental health and high performance to co-exist - from athletes being excited to have a structured journal to process how they feel, to parents sharing their stories of supporting elite athletes the best they can, to coaches fighting for their teams with every ounce of effort they can muster. It’s so clear that the state of our emotional world determines so much of how we show up in life.

And we could not have done this month without the incredibles who showed up believing that very same thing - that mental health and high performance are not opponents - they are allies. That when we integrate our experiences in life (both on and off the court), we invite all parts of us to the table, rather than leaving parts of us behind.

That means we are not at odds with our anxiety, our frustrations, or our pains. We do not need to deny the difficulty in order to have success.

In a world bent on dualism, on black-and-white thinking, we are committed to finding nuance, holding complexity, and facing reality head on - in sport and in life.

Thank you to the amazing humans who helped us bring this vision to life.

I am endlessly inspired by the 12 athletes I had the privilege of working alongside at the 1% Elite Setter combine in Tennessee with @outofsystemofficial at their @elitesetterscombine.

The more athletes I work with, the more evident it becomes. Wellbeing and high performance are not at odds with one another - in fact, our best performance (in sport, and in life) is rooted in our health. Meaning, the extent to which we can manage difficult emotions, handle stress under pressure, and be as honest as possible about what we are up against and work through difficulties as they come, the better we perform (and actually enjoy it!).

This project at @elite_resilience has been born alongside @sanders_tj and inspired by hundreds, if not thousands, of athletes who so desperately want to love their sport - and keep loving it, for a long time. This is for you, your coaches, and your parents who are all cheering you on.

Overwhelmed with gratitude for this past week 🙏🏼 taken in K2 Volleyball Club by @therapybyjguy

‘It’s really time for you to see through the absurdity of your own predicament. You aren’t who you thought you were. You just aren’t that person. And in this very lifetime, you can know it.’
(Ram Dass)

Symbolism has followed the human projections of meaning since the beginning of time. Today, the fire horse becomes a symbol of collective meaning - consciousness, experience - a symbol that will infuse how we, as a collective conscience, project ourselves into our future and experience ourselves in our present presence.

Symbols have forever changed the way we might see the temporality of our life, the dynamicism of our self-perception, and a way out of the prisons our minds so easily entangle us in. They give us a tool to reckon with the person we thought we were, and a bridge into knowing the person we are becoming.

New beginnings, movement, clarity, alignment, direction. How do these themes merge with your reality? How might symbolism be part of our collective journeys into wholeness, into truth, into courage, into healing, today?
