Life updates! In April, I finally became a AASECT certified sex therapist. The younger me would be so proud- 🥲 so much of my teen/young adult years I had felt a lot of seggsual shame because i had learned growing up that seggs was sinful (unless you were married and in a heterosexual relationship), and there was no room for exploring eroticism. Now I say fu*c k that! and consider it one of my life’s passion in helping people step out of their shame and into pleasure and all the goodness about it. ❤️ -Other exciting things were attending the Kendrick Lamar and SZA concert which was freaking amazing and I’m so happy to be alive at the same time as them lol. 😆 -My daughter’s teeth came out, which was a big milestone and brings up some sad emotions because that means she’s growing up and also a reminder that time flies by. 🥲🥳I ran my half marathon after healing from a knee injury so glad I was able to run injury free, and hoping to run the LA marathon next year. 😀 Saw travel guru Rick steves which was a treat.
Overall, life is good and I’m excited for the Aasect annual conference next week at Las Vegas! Hope you all are taking good care of yourselves 🥰 taken in Irvine, California by @therapywithamy

Some are curious- what actually goes on in s3x therapy? S3x therapy is a type of talk therapy where we discuss ways for you to navigate s3xual challenges and issues. Here's just a few topics often discussed in sex therapy sessions so you get the idea! Of course this is just a snapshot, there's more topics discussed. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or want to work with a s3x therapist!

You can't talk about s3x without talking about shame! In our s3x negative society, we receive so much explicit and implicit messages growing up, compounded with inadequate s3x education that it makes perfect sense that so many of us struggle with talking about s3x. As a s3x therapist, I love having rich discussions about s3xuality, normalizing anxieties about s3x and helping process your experiences.

Another fantastic way to deconstruct is through reading and continued education. I personally enjoyed the book "Tell Me What You Want" by Justin Lehmiller, a psychologist with expertise in human sexuality. He conducted a comprehensive study of Americans views on s3x and fantasies and perhaps this book can inform and challenge your views about s3x.

I am curious of what thoughts and feelings arise within you when thinking about this topic? How have you been able to work on your deconstruction of s3xual shame? Is this something you'd like to work on within yourself?

Attended the 2nd annual Write us in Summit in West Hollywood @rewritethebiline @ambisocial this past weekend.

The summit discussed how to have the arts incorporate more positive bi+ and pan/ poly representation. There were bi and or pan singers, film writers, activists & content creators that represented in the summit and hearing them talk was just so moving.

Loved bi+ and pan representation in community and being surrounded by my peeps felt so affirming!

Coming out as bi later in life can feel a bit… confusing. Here are some tips on ways to feel not so alone in this experience!

(These tips are only if you feel comfortable doing so- if you are not in an environment that is safe, of course, these tips may not apply.)

1. Give yourself permission to notice and enjoy your attraction to women.
Having grown up in communities that condemned queerness, it took me awhile to get rid of the internalized homophobia message that I had growing up. I've found that GIVING PERMISSION for me to say that it is okay to embrace same sex attraction has been so liberating. I literally tell myself "It is ok!".

2. Learn to flirt with women- a genuine compliment is a great start! :)

3. Grieve the time you might have not had growing up. I found myself feeling a bit jealous of those who knew early on and were able to explore their queerness from an early age….but you know what? It’s never too late!

4. Make queer friends. Surrounding myself with good sapphic energy feels so affirming! https://www.ambi.org/losangeles is a organization that have events to bring bi people in community! For more queer events in OC in cali- check out @oclgbtpride

5. Follow social media content of bisexual and queer women. I personally love content by @capricampeau and @bi_invisibility @bi_astrology @drmimihoang

Anything else would you add to this list?
:)

Alsooooo, if you're looking for a s/x positive, queer therapist who understands the challenges of navigating sx, intimacy- feel free to reach out to me via my website!:) by @therapywithamy

To those who grew up in purity culture, allowing and accessing pleasure can sound scary because even the word “pleasure” can bring up some uncomfortable feelings and thoughts.

Like.. “that’s not for me” or “pleasure is bad/evil/dirty” or there’s a belief that pleasure is only for something s/xual.

When the body had become conditioned to these responses, we can cut ourselves from expansive experiences of pleasure.

So try thinking of pleasure as something that is not only limited to s/x but pleasure as something that you may already experience in your day to day.

Pleasure can be accessed in SOOOOO many different ways! 🥰

Through food, meaningful conversation w/ friends, good art/literature, song, nature! The way the sunlight peeks in between leaves on a tree, the whiff of freshly baked bread, the hug of someone you love. Try accessing that FIRST as a way to explore PLEASURE.

It’s all around you- give yourself permission to NOTICE it. Pleasure doesn’t have to be this big scary thing. Allowing yourself to experience pleasure in non-seggusal way can be a doorway to eventual sgguesual pleasure down the line (if you’re wanting that). Pleasure is everywhere! :)

What are some ways you experience pleasure? Share with me!

When newly dating, trust your body’s intuition. ❤️

In the early stages of dating, nervousness at first is totally normal…😅

But over time, notice what your body does around them.
Does it soften? Open? Feel light?
Or does it stay guarded, tense, bracing for something?

Your body knows and is wise. Trust it!

But if you are having challenges with dating and relationships, consider reaching out to a therapist (like me!) who can help you navigate this journey with you. 💜💜💜 by @therapywithamy
