Why all Keeping an Eye on Malaysia in 2026 👀 !

Looking at the first half of 2026, Malaysia’s investment numbers are quite interesting.

We recorded RM218.5 billion in approved investments, up 11.7% compared to 1H 2025. Foreign investment also increased 18.5% to RM126.9 billion.

And here’s something I found particularly interesting…

📍 Selangor has moved to No. 1.

In 1H 2025, Johor was leading with around RM56.1 billion, while Selangor recorded RM34.8 billion.

Fast forward to 1H 2026:
🥇 Selangor – RM70.0 billion
🥈 Johor – RM59.4 billion

That’s a significant shift and shows how strong investment activity in Selangor has become.

🌎 The foreign investment story has also changed.

Last year, Singapore was the biggest foreign investor.

But in 1H 2026, the USA moved into No. 1 with RM33.1 billion, followed by Singapore at RM25.9 billion, Japan at RM22.3 billion and China at RM16.5 billion.

⛽ And another number worth paying attention to…

Malaysia’s primary sector jumped 414% year-on-year to RM17.6 billion, driven entirely by 23 offshore oil & gas projects.
