POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

The hardest part about finding a pattern isn’t finding. It’s knowing when you’ve become attached to it.

Once you believe you’ve figured out something, your brain gets very good at finding evidence that supports the story and very good at ignoring what doesn’t.

So when I think I’ve found a pattern, I really try to approach it from the opposite end.

What would prove me wrong?

Because if the pattern is real, it should survive being challenged.

The Raspy Report - Lake Travis Edition Episode 5: The Percentage Triangle

Most people fish the whole lake.
High percentage anglers eliminate it.

The Percentage Triangle is a strategic concept built to quickly remove unproductive water and identify the areas where bass are most likely to position based on seasonal movement, structure, and timing.

Instead of randomly casting at “good looking” water…
you narrow the lake down piece by piece until the highest percentage zones remain.

Less guessing.
More intentionality.
More efficient decisions.

This is how you stop fishing chaotically and start fishing strategically.

The lake tells a story.
The triangle helps you read it.

The Raspy Report - Lake Travis Edition Episode 3: Bass Perspective

Field Note 3 - Bass Perspective

Most anglers think about bait selection... but ignore what the fish can actually see.

Bass see through a window.
Not everything around them is visible.

Stay inside it - you’re exposed.
Stay outside it - you’re invisible.

Presentation doesn’t start with your bait.
It starts with your position.

THE PSYCHOLOGY OF FISHING — E5: DELIBERATE PRACTICE 🎣

Time on the water doesn’t automatically make you better.

Improvement comes from identifying weaknesses, isolating skills, testing ideas, and learning from the results.

Don’t just put in hours. Make the reps count.

Meanwhile, back at the ponds! 🎣⚔️

Didn’t feel like going through the whole process of getting out on Travis, so I kept it simple this morning.

Swim jig and a pond.

Had 3 bites literally 10 inches from the shoreline and missed all three. After the third miss, I decided to let that spot reset.

About 30 minutes later, I came back around and made a similar cast to the one that got swiped earlier. This time I was able to lean into him!

Days like this are so sick! Chasing bites and making adjustments!💥

Something I noticed about today’s jig combo:

I’ve never really experienced a swim jig that I could burn this fast with a boot-tail swimbait trailer.

I can fish a jig this fast with a flapping craw, but not usually with a swimbait trailer. The Core Tackle Swim Jig’s weight placement on the hook shank allows me to fish that combination at speeds I haven’t experienced with other setups.

Thats valuable information.

Today’s combo:

* Core Tackle 1/4 oz. Swim Jig
* Reaction Innovations Skinny Dipper

The Raspy Report Psychology Of Fishing Episode 4: Inattentional Blindness

Half the people counted the passes and never saw the gorilla. Dead center of the screen, beating its chest.

That’s inattentional blindness. Your brain deletes whatever you’re not looking for.

You can’t turn it off. But you can stop fishing like it isn’t there.

When’s the last time you missed a clue that was right in front of you?

Study I am referring to is by Simons et al. PMID 10694957.

Video footage (https://youtu.be/vJG698U2Mvo?is=7gelPWhxyQynwrDj) is credited to Daniel Simons and is not my own.

PSYCHOLOGY OF FISHING — EP. 3: DECISION FATIGUE

Your body and brain are tired of being on constant alert and making decisions.

100 decisions before 9am. What to tie on. What area. The overall game plan. What pattern. Then you wonder why you’re changing baits every ten minutes and leaving good spots too early.

That’s not a fishing problem. That’s a bandwidth problem.

Simplify your routines. Make the important decisions early. Group similar things together. Take the break before you need it.

Sometimes the best decision you can make is to stop making decisions for a minute.

When does it hit you — first hour, or hour six? Comment and let me know 👇

Lake Travis bass fishing baby! 🎣

I love winding a balsa wood crank with braided split rings during late summer/early fall. It’s so dang sneaky.

Everyone throws these loud, crazy, obnoxious crankbaits which absolutely have their time and place but today they weren’t having it.

Had to go into silent stealth mode to get these guys to cooperate. 🤫

Badass little flurry!

Find your own bite.

@blacklabeltackle Tapout with braided split rings! Silent killer!

This fall, I implore you to actually try speed cranking on Lake Travis.

Don’t just think about what looks realistic.

Think about how you can impart speed to trigger a reaction.

Slow is nice at certain times of the year, but during the fall transition, I’ve noticed that speed gets me more bites than anything else.

Give it a shot.
