A few weeks ago we hosted workshops on Black men’s wellness at @blackcreek_chc !

Tag someone you think would benefit from a space to improve Black men’s wellness🙏🏿

📚RECAP

Khalil Prescod presented my brothers and I with an initiative to create safe spaces for Black men to discuss their mental health & wellness needs. This would include our workshops, followed by a day of relaxation in the @goplace_toronto Spa in Markham.

We know there is a need for these spaces, and were happy to provide our expertise. In terms of how we set up the workshops:

☀️ I broke down my journey to accessing therapy for the first time to set the stage for vulnerability and connected themes of emotional asymmetry

☀️My oldest brother, Kwasi Adu-Basowah, leveraged his years of experience in CAMH to share mental health tools for wellness

☀️We created a discussion space to breakdown the modern challenges of being a Black man, guided by Nana Adu-Poku. I leaned on the readings of bell hooks to break down how patriarchy can harm us all. We made sure to fit in banter to make it informative, yet engaging

Participants expressed feeling rejuvenated, while recognizing the need for more spaces like these. If you’d like to explore what me creating a space for wellness & mental health may look like for your group or organization, message me directly!

In the meanwhile, check out my website in the bio to learn more about the work I do at The Reach Series!

Thank you Khalil & BCCHC for the opportunity. I look forward to the next time we can work together🙏🏿

As we’re starting to get more interest for speaking opportunities, I thought I would briefly introduce my brothers and I again! Dm if you’d like to learn more🤟🏿

We all speak to messages of wellness, but touch on that message with different lens. We have viewpoints shaped through our upbringing, years of formalized education, and ultimately the career paths we’ve chosen to pursue.

If you know anyone looking for speakers on youth empowerment, wellness, financial literacy, mental health tools, academic success, implementing wellness and equity in workspaces, or something more custom - reach out to learn more about what that could look like‼️ by @thereachseries

A few weeks ago, Kwasi delivered a wellness workshop to students across the world!

The Future of Work Academy brings together international students aged 15–17 from over 40 countries to explore business, innovation, entrepreneurship, and future career pathways. As part of the program, he was one of the guest facilitators that shared real-world insights and experiences to help inspire and inform these students.

He delivered our workshop on 14 areas of wellness, spoke about managing burnout as a student, and how they could make time to understand what fills their cups as they work towards their goals.

We’re grateful to Karen Natasha (@karenatashacoaching) and the Tamwood International College Summer Camp at University of Toronto St. George for the opportunity to facilitate!

A few weeks ago, Kwasi’s old high school had its 65th anniversary. He was honoured to be featured on its wall of fame for the night!

Kwasi went to William Lyon Mackenzie Collegiate Institute growing up. Like many students, he had no idea what he wanted to do. He took an extra year for that reason. He had the privilege of being surrounded by friends, teachers, and mentors who trusted he would figure it out one day.

He’s grateful to be recognized alongside all these people, and also grateful for the people he’s crossed paths with along the way.

Stay bless ☀️

A few weeks ago, Kwasi received one of McMaster’s most prestigious awards for alumni achievement. Here is why he’s grateful ⬇️

10 years ago, he took an extra year of high school because he felt lost. He learned about McMaster (@mcmasteru @mcmastersports) in that extra year as he got recruited for basketball (@mcmastermbb) . He barely got in with the admission average for his program. He accepted the offer to the Kinesiology program minutes before the deadline, after a long discussion with his parents about the good “gut feeling” he had about the university. He was the first in my family to live away from home for school, so he understood their concern more in retrospect.

With all of that, he was entering McMaster in 2016, wanting to make the most of his experience. He never wanted to take a day, week, or year for granted. As someone who felt lost, he also wanted to use his experiences to empower others within his capacity someday.

His first day as a student was memorable. He got dropped off on campus with one luggage and a ripped garbage bag with his winter blanket poking out. Welcome Week reps from @mackinsociety came to help him. That was a premonition that he had made the right decision. He felt welcomed, and would actually go on to become a Welcome Week rep every year until he graduated.

As he looks back, experiences like this prepared him for the (@mcmasteralumni1887) McMaster Arch Award.

Since these days, he’s been able to have local and global impacts on wellness, mental health, and sustainability (and other areas) through social entrepreneurship. @thereachseries started through his experiences at McMaster.

He’s feeling grateful to everyone who has played a significant and subtle role in where he is today. We are all mosaics of our experiences, guided by our central values. He’s met a lot of people that continue to help him put the pieces together.

We can keep writing, but for now - we want to wish you well in your path.

Thank you to everyone who made this night, and this moment, one to remember. And congratulations to the amazing folx that were awarded that night.

Stay bless ☀️

Kwasi facilitated a workshop on public speaking for the Board of Directors at TAIBU Community Health Centre (@taibucsc) ⬇️

One of the key messages we explored was that effective public speaking isn’t just about saying the right things. It also involves reading the room you’re in. Understanding your audience, adapting to context, and building connection are skills that extend far beyond a presentation. They shape how we build trust, strengthen relationships, and navigate everyday conversations.

We’re grateful to Belinda Ndaye, MA for making the connection, and to the Board for their engagement, thoughtful contributions, and openness throughout the session.

Stay bless☀️

In honour of Mental Health Awareness Month, we wanted to share a recent initiative we’re very proud of ⬇️

Working with Peaks Psychotherapy (@peakspsychotherapy), we were recently able to offer 50 free therapy sessions to Black folx experiencing barriers. Through their generosity, we’ve helped provide 68 sessions to date.

We’re grateful to Ingrid Edwards’s leadership to collaborate in this work, and Cameal Sinclair RP (Qualifying), PT, MScPT, HKin, MCPC’s willingness to offer sessions for folx. This would not be possible without them. Check out their IG page to learn more about the incredible work they do.

I’m grateful to Nana Kwame Adu-Poku (@dr.adu.poku) and Kwasi Adu-Basowah for their leadership in helping turn this idea into an action plan to make an impact.

We’re grateful to Brandon Bernard and Sefa Otchere who provided insights on the communications and business side respectively.

As someone that has struggled with their mental health, Kwasi AP is passionate about destigmatizing conversations around it, we’re glad to have used The Reach Series to generate tangible social impact. We hope this will change people’s lives. And thank you to everyone who helped spread the word through engaging with this initiative.

We encourage you all to think about the subtle and grand ways you can make an impact. Even one conversation has the potential to affect someone’s trajectory for the better.

We’re wishing you all a great week ahead, and we hope you’ll stay tuned for everything The Reach Series has on the horizon! If you’re interested in the projects, initiatives or offerings we have, we’re always a message away!

Stay bless☀️

And just like that, a whole year of showing up, learning, and growing has come to an end 🎓✨

Last week, we wrapped up our programming year for the Inspiring Work cohort with a celebration at @wealthsimple HQ.

Our cohort heard from the alumni and NextGEN council on their epic fail moments, and what they learned.

We spoke about burnout, financing university, building relationships and reflected on the year through a video that had us all in our feelings.

Huge thanks to @thereachseries for all the advice shared with our students.

And a massive thank you to Wealthsimple and the @wealthsimplefoundation for opening your doors, championing our students, and investing in the next generation through scholarships and financial literacy support. 🙏🏼

To every student in this cohort: We are so proud of you. Go show the world what you’ve got 🚀

Happy mental health awareness month 🥰

I’m so excited to be a recipient selected for the healing in black communities initiative facilitated by @thereachseries and Peaks Psychotherapy🧘🏾‍♀️

With 5 free psychotherapy sessions, I’m immensely grateful for the opportunity to reflect on the things I tend to put on the back burner.

Here Are 3 Reasons Why We Should De-Stigmatize Therapy:

1. Therapy gives us the tools we need to heal, grow, and break unhealthy patterns
2. Seeking therapy is one of the most courageous things you could ever do. It’s something to be proud of, not ashamed of.
3. Therapy is informative and educational

A few weeks ago, Kwasi spoke as a panelist at Black Brilliance Across Generations, sharing insights from his work on The Reach Series!

The event was centred around community, celebration, arts, and an intergenerational panel around Black brilliance, identity, and mental health. He’s grateful to the teams at Scarborough Centre for Healthy Communities (@schcontario), Heritage Skills Development Centre (HSDC), YouthLink, EarlyON, and everyone involved for hosting such a meaningful space.

Thank you to Darius Sookram for the opportunity - and to the incredible staff, speakers, and community for the warm welcome.

Stay bless ☀️

A few weeks ago, Kwasi had an opportunity to speak to students at his old high school about goal setting⬇️

He delivered a workshop to 100+ students and staff about how to adjust your bare minimum for success. This workshop is based on a lot of the lessons he learned while attending William Lyon Mackenzie Collegiate Institute, and the story of how he worked hard to “just” get in to McMaster University for his basketball career and undergraduate studies.

It was especially heartwarming to see so many of the teachers, mentors, and coaches that played a role in making his high school experience and path to university what it was. 10 years later, Kwasi feels a deeper recognition for the roles that educators can play in your life - and the ripple effects they can have.

We’re feeling extremely grateful for this opportunity, and everyone who played a part in bringing this to life.

Stay bless☀️
