A marriage can be strong and still need a reset, and we prove it with a week that packs in everything: a Strong Bonds marriage retreat, Tiff’s birthday, and our 13-year anniversary. We start with the honest stuff, like how mental health can feel like a roller coaster and how we cope without pretending we have it all figured out. Then we get into why doing a retreat or workshop is not a sign something is broken. For us, it is a way to reconnect, compare perspectives, and catch small issues before they turn into big ones.

Tiff breaks down what made her birthday hit so deep, from acts of service to the difference between “the usual” and truly feeling seen. We talk love languages, expectations, and why forgetting or minimizing significant days can hurt even when you have done a lot right all year. From there, we pivot into family and parenting, including our trip back to California, the nostalgia of Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, and watching our kids surprise us with bravery on the rides. We also get real about the tug-of-war between moving back home and protecting the peace we have built for our household.

The second half turns into straight relationship advice with our unfiltered Q and A: apologizing first, disagreeing without disrespect, the need for separate interests, what romance looks like after years, emotional intimacy versus physical intimacy, and why “50-50” in marriage is often more myth than math. We also discuss blended family boundaries and step-parent authority, including a tough wedding scenario that raises big questions about loyalty and respect. If you’re navigating a long-term relationship, military marriage stress, parenting, or a blended family, this conversation gives you language, perspective, and a few laughs along the way.
