Got these cherry splines all flushed up. I’m really loving my new paring chisel. Using it really cuts down on the sanding! Gluing some cherry splines into this walnut box. I snuck up on the perfect fit with the drum sander. 4 corner grain matched walnut box with maple bottom and cherry lid with walnut bow ties. A little mashup of 4 videos of the dry fit for this walnut box. The JessEm stock guides worked excellent for cutting these dados! Using the drum sander to gently flatten a small chunk of maple for my box bottom panel. This method worked out great because the workpiece was short enough to fully rest on the drum sander bed before it hit the drum. Same concept as the sled, but no sled. I’ve gotten so many uses out of this reclaimed maple! Switchable Magnet!?Such a simple yet effective use of the@magswitch_tech magnets. They work great as a stop for repeatable cuts. It is an extremely strong magnet that you can switch on and off. I know most of you know this, but you don’t want to use your fence as a stop for crosscuts like this because it won’t be properly supported and there is a great chance of creating binding, resulting in kickback. This method ensures an accurate cut and also a safe cut.There are other ways to do this of course, but none as fast and easy as this.
