Kayak every month challenge, year 5: September ☑️
•
Been wanting to explore farther up the Coquitlam River, but it’s kind of a struggle to get here, have to fight a couple kms of epic currents in the Fraser just to reach the mouth of the Coquitlam. But with today being National Day for Truth and Reconciliation it seemed like a great day to visit the rivers running through the Kwikwetlem First Nation. Did my homework and managed to time the tide peaks to kill off the current, almost slack the entire time I was out there. Great conversations along the way with some Kwikwetlem members out marking the day. 10/10 trip for sure. Longer than many of my recent trips, and I’m feeling it now.

Well I guess there’s no quitting now, five years straight for kayak every month. Admittedly they haven’t all been the most exciting lately, need to work harder at making time for expeditions. Nevertheless, the streak continues. Very autumn-adjacent feel out there today. Dry suit weather just around the corner.

Kayak every month challenge, year 4: July ☑️
•
Can’t believe it’s been a month since Lightning Lake, feels like that was last weekend. What a change in the province over a month, fires everywhere, not a lot of options for travel to many favourite places. So back to the reliable home port for a lovely evening trip. Definitely weekend warrior season, tons of paddle boarders and floaters on all kinds of contraptions out there. Where were you in January, huh? Totally joking, nice to see it being appreciated and well used. Kinda fun when there’s actually “traffic”. Usually just me, myself, and the cobra chickens. Thankful to call this home.

Fruit picker tool for the win. Far less apples on the neighborhood park tree this year, but still managed to pick the same size basket as last year. Picked that many last year almost all within reach of the ground. But enough for what I need. Thank you again, old tree. 🌳

Not looking like much of an apple year. The neighborhood park apple tree doesn’t have many on it, think I was already picking by Canada Day last year? Anyway. We’ll see I guess. Would be a shame to have to BUY apples.

Kayak every month challenge, year 4: June ☑️
•
Been wanting to kayak Lightning Lake in Manning Park for ages, always been one of those “one day” things. But sometimes you can hype a thing up in your head too much, build a level of expectation that reality can never live up to. Read too many guidebooks and see too many influencer posts… This was absolutely not the case. It was a full 11/10 bucket list day out there, one of the most beautiful lakes I’ve ever been on. Made even better by having @therealronaleigh join me. Kicking off the good weather season with a winner. More like these, please.
