July is sarcoma awareness month & a month now that leaves me reflecting daily on my journey. This past year I lost more people I love to cancer. People I care for are watching their loved ones slip away or struggle to navigate it. Until you wear the shoes or walk beside someone in them you will never understand how the shadow can consume a soul. Cancer sucks the light completely out of your life & robs you. Darkness surrounds you and people will hurt you still. Loved ones won’t knock on your door. They won’t call. Friends will say “I don’t know what to say” & then it hits you. I had people steal from me. I had people forget me. I drove myself to surgeries. I slept in my bath tub most nights. Sleepless & scared. The unknown creeping in at every hour of every day. This photo was taken by one of my best friends @curtisanderson135 before my photo op with @bareknucklefc & resonates with me deeply because that little light at the end of tunnel was the only thing I could see. It was far away but I kept moving one foot after the other. That year I had wellness checks done on me. I had to have friends come save me. I slipped. We are all capable of hitting rock bottom… nobody is immune to the shadow but it’s how we stand up again that will be our reckoning. The journey is meant to test you. It’s just going to make the destination that much sweeter ❤️‍🔥
