Proper perspective teaches us that what we see isn’t as important as how we choose to see it. 🧐🤔

So the unthinkable happened: my friend and brother Akeem Moore was slain. Who would have thought that a good man, a respected educator, an accomplished musician and a highly sought-after speaker who has never had a history of trouble would have his life shortened due to violence. And for the past two weeks, I’ve been too deep in my thoughts to even know how I feel. I can’t stop thinking about it.😤
-
I can’t stop thinking about not just how sad I am that we lost him but also how mad I am that he was taken away from us. Broken that he’s gone but angry because he didn’t have to be. And I can’t stop thinking about it.😠
-
I can’t stop thinking about how it happened on the neighborhood street right before my block. So anytime I drive past that street, I think about what happened. I can’t stop thinking about how it literally happened in front of the house directly behind my house. So whenever I drive past that house, I think about what happened. I can’t stop thinking about how I was on my way home from a gig but ironically and coincidentally decided to stop by our favorite sports bar to grab a late bite to eat. But had I decided to go straight home instead, I would’ve been there at the time of the shooting. I would’ve heard the gun go off in real time not knowing that the victim would be my boy. That thought alone haunts me. And I can’t stop thinking about it.😔
-
However, when I’m inundated with thoughts that cause me to grieve, I find myself overwhelmed with feelings of gratitude. Thinking about the Sunday night hangs with the fellas. Thinking about me playing keys for his choir. Thinking about him filling in for me leading worship for my church. Thinking about our phone calls exchanging notes on each of our recent speaking engagements. Thinking about how he would be the one sharing inspirational nuggets and videos on our group chats. He was always so thoughtful. I rather “think on these things” when it comes to your memory. Cause when you think about greatness, you think of Akeem! 😁 Rest in power to my comrade and compadre “Prince Akeem” (what I called and crowned him). You might be gone but you’ll never be forgotten.👑🙏🏾💙🕊️ by @therealrich.e.rich

Stay with me now.🤔🙏🏾💫
