The people are what make PRT great ❤️ We are incredibly happy and proud of the entire team behind MRS. WARRENS PROFESSION for opening on the PRT Mainstage as the second production of our 40th Anniversary Season.

MRS. WARRENS PROFESSION started as a PRT Co-op production, entirely self-produced and run by the co-op members themselves - a grassroots, rag-tag endeavor that always takes grit, dedication, and, most importantly, lots of love.💐🌹

HOWEVER, this show is not only overflowing in ARTISTIC love, but FAMILIAL too!

Not only do we have the pleasure of watching the father-son duo of Director Michael Rothhaar & Actor Will Rothhaar (who plays Frank Gardner) create theater magic together, but we also get to witness the central moral struggle between the main characters of Mrs. Warren & daughter Vivie Warren played by the real-life mother-daughter duo of Cyndy Fujikawa & Nell Murphy.

🎭 This entire team (cast, crew, and creative team alike) bring George Bernard Shaw's poignant story about the morally complex economic choices a woman must make when faced with little or no options before her, to life beautifully.

GET CLOSER THAN EVER TO GEORGE BERNARD SHAW'S MASTERPIECE IN ONE OF PRT'S MOST INTIMATE SPACES.

🔔 Previews for MRS. WARRENS PROFESSION start this Saturday, Sept 12th at 8pm.

Set in Victorian England, 1893 — where women enjoy few legal rights — Kitty Warren has built an international business empire. When her daughter Vivie graduates from Cambridge, she presses her mother for answers as to their family background. As Mrs. Warren defends the choices she made in a world that offered women few honest paths to security, Vivie must decide how to reconcile her own principles with her mother's past.

Mrs. Warren’s Profession is an insightful, witty, and brilliant account of two women (developed in PRT's workshop, our production features real life mother and daughter Cyndy Fujikawa and Nell Murphy) at different points in life, who insist on choosing their own destinies. The play remains every bit as resonant and essential as it was 130 years ago. That these strong women, mother and daughter, stand opposed to each other equally armored, makes for a thrilling, poignant and unforgettable evening of one of Shaw’s greatest plays.

♦️PLAYING NOW IN THE PRT CO-OP♦️

Mrs. Warren’s Profession takes a hard look at the choices a woman must make, faced with little or no options before her, and the moral implications of economic survival.

In Victorian England, when women enjoy few legal rights, Kitty Warren has built an international business empire. When her daughter Vivie, who has been “boarded out her whole life,” graduates from Cambridge, she presses her mother for answers as to her existence. The truth of how her mother survived poverty is difficult to hear; but it’s not the whole story.

Written in 1893, the play was originally banned in the UK. When it finally premiered in New York in 1905, the entire cast was arrested on opening night.

Shaw’s play continues to be a witty, insightful and relentless account of two women, at different points in life, who insist on choosing their own destinies. This play remains every bit as resonant and, sadly, every bit as necessary as it was 130-odd years ago. That these fierce women are mother and daughter and stand opposed to each other equally armored, makes for a thrilling, shocking and heartbreaking tale.
