Sold— This 1937 near-pointillist Chilean landscape is the last of three I’ve acquired recently. The silver-gilt frame beautifully draws out the cool tones of the landscape, while the sky feels almost like a storm rolling in over the coast.

I love that it creates such a moody, atmospheric scene without relying on a traditionally “moody” palette.

As the leaves begin to turn, and the temperature begins to cool, I’m reminded of this painting I sold around this time last year. It’s hard to believe that TRG is almost a year old. It’s been such a wild learning curve for me, constantly biting off more than I can chew and learning to digest it. What may seem like a simple + straightforward business to some requires SO much more than you would think. More time, more energy, more money, more sacrifices, more pivots, more hard lessons. All that to say, I love it. And I’m so glad that this is what I get to spend my days doing alongside my family.

Artist Spotlight: Adolphe Pétérelle (1874–1947)

From the Bateau-Lavoir of Montmartre to the studios of Montparnasse, Adolphe Pétérelle worked at the center of one of the most important periods in modern French art.

Pétérelle moved into the Bateau-Lavoir in 1900, where he crossed paths with Pablo Picasso, Théophile Steinlen and other figures of the Parisian avant-garde. He later settled at Cité Falguière in Montparnasse, neighboring Amedeo Modigliani, with Constantin Brâncuși working nearby.

Pétérelle exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants, Salon d’Automne and Salon des Tuileries and was made a Chevalier of the Légion d’honneur in 1938. Sculptor François Pompon was among his friends and collectors, and Pierre Bonnard once owned one of his major paintings.

Today, Pétérelle’s work can be found in French museum collections including the Centre Pompidou and Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris.
