Book: The Ravana Within: Slay Your Inner Demons by @kanika.saxena273

"The world outside changes only when the world inside does."

Every individual carries both virtues and vices within them, which ultimately shape the life they lead. It is this inner conflict that Saxena chooses to explore through the symbolism of Ram and Ravana, wherein each of Ravana's ten heads represents a vice that continues to exist within us today. The author tries to convey how the influence of these vices can be controlled, which would help one live a peaceful life. She has portrayed how layered these vices are, making them difficult to identify and acknowledge, and explains how one can gradually overcome them.

Another aspect I found interesting was how each vice is interconnected with the others, which the author continues to establish throughout the book. The author has also pointed out how these vices are not necessarily bad, as they play an important role in pushing us forward and supporting our virtues. However, the line between their positive and negative impact is very thin. It is only when they exist in excess that they become detrimental. Rather than eliminating them completely, the focus is on maintaining a balance between our virtues and vices, which ultimately helps improve the quality of one's life.

My biggest takeaway from this book was that it helped me identify and understand the vices that I had unknowingly let trap me. It also helped me understand why some of the people closest to me act and react the way they do.

I found the writing to be reflective, simple, and easy to follow. Given that it is an introspective read, I took my own time to understand each vice and reflect upon the author's point of view.

Book: The Simplicity Trap by @nambiar_rohit

I picked up this book as a reader but ended up taking away valuable lessons as a student.

Initially, I expected it to be a typical non-fiction book centered on management strategies in the insurance sector. Instead, I was introduced to a practical perspective through the eyes of a CEO. As the title, The Simplicity Trap, suggests, the author consistently emphasizes how organizations often accumulate unnecessary processes and complications when many challenges could be approached in a much simpler way.

By sharing his own experiences, the author shares practical approaches to different organizational situations in a concise and engaging manner, making this an insightful read. What makes this book stand out is that it never tries to impress the reader. Instead, the author is direct and transparent about his approaches, the actions he took, and the outcomes they produced. Whether the results were positive or negative, he openly shares what worked, what didn't, and why.

This isn't the kind of book to rush through. It's one to read slowly, allowing each chapter to offer a new perspective or lesson.

As a management student, I have been looking for books like this that teach through real-life experiences rather than just theory, and this one delivered exactly that. My biggest takeaway is that I'll definitely be using many of these case studies as examples in my exams.

Book: Saltwater Hearts by @gargishagupta

Saltwater Hearts is one of those books that will leave you thinking about it even after you've finished it.

Manaswi and Niel become accidental roommates in Goa. Due to their own reasons, both of them reach Goa with deadlines looming over their heads. I loved how their friendship grew through understanding, conversations, and simply being there for each other. Nothing was rushed. What started with rules gradually turned into friendship.

Their story is a true depiction of the opposites attract trope. Manaswi is rebellious, fierce, and resilient. On the other hand, Niel is calm, observant, and devoted to his work. I loved how the author played around with these two characters. I wholeheartedly enjoyed their funny banter.

This story explores how parents fixing their children's marriages can impact their lives, especially when they have dreams of their own to chase. What I loved most about this book is how, against all odds, Manaswi stood up for herself even when some decisions were tough to make.

Along with her, I'll always carry the memories of Room No. 203 and No Uncle's Café and its rules with me.

Other than the Goa vibes, I also found the family history between both the families intriguing.

Thank you @sparklit.pr for this opportunity. 🤍

Book: Bitter Sacrament by @authorwillakade

What if your existence was nothing more than carrying the sins of the deceased?

I found myself completely entrapped by the story from the moment Dolores, a 26-year-old Live-In at the Abbey, was introduced. She had been trodden upon and used as nothing more than a vessel to carry the sins of those on their deathbeds, all under a thin veil of good deeds, devotion, and the promise of becoming a sister at the cost of her own life. I kept on pondering, until when she's to suffer?

Then Father Thomas enters the story, the only person who sees Dolores as a human being rather than a mere tool. Despite their relationship being forbidden, the connection between them felt genuine. Their slow-burn chemistry added another compelling layer to the story and left me wondering: How would he save her?

Set against a hauntingly atmospheric backdrop, The Bitter Sacrament is a dark Gothic romance filled with mystery, emotional intensity, and an ever-present sense of dread. It is utterly addictive and kept me hooked from beginning to end. The ending of the book caught me off gaurd, it was both beautiful and filled with agony yet left me with a feeling of satisfaction. I have enjoyed this book thoroughly.

If Gothic romances with unforgettable characters and emotionally charged storytelling are your kind of read, I highly recommend giving this one a chance.

PS: The author's note genuinely shook me. I never imagined that a practice like this had existed in real life. It made me question humanity. Why was the burden of the upper class carried by those who were already considered the lowest in society? Where was the humanity back then? And where is it now? It made me think about how corrupt a system can become when people stop seeing one another as equals. Why can't we simply see each other as children of God?

Thank you @inkspire.offical for this wondering opportunity. 🤍

Book: Maya, Dead and Dreaming by @lana.sabarwal

This psychological thriller book subtly places all the clues in front of the readers through its narration, yet every suspect I guessed turned out to be wrong, and that's what made it such a clever read for me.

Set in the 1950s in the small town of Shogie, this book is filled with thriller mystery and horror elements.

I was hooked from the very first line and the writing style kept me completely engrossed throughout. With each chapter, the story grew more intense than the last. Yet the book didn't trick the readers. In fact, the climax had unfolded unhurriedly at an even pace.

My favourite scene in this story is how Karenina, who happens to be a psychoanalyst, draws the information out of the suspects and pieces it all together. The dream sequences of Munna which were exceptionally written, their vivid details made me genuinely unsettle.

I found the writing easy to follow and immersive. The author had done a remarkable job with executing the deeply layered emotions along with the other strong elements of the book.

I would recommend this book to everyone who enjoys psychological thrillers with strong thriller elements.

Blind date by Author @sundarivenkatraman is a fast-paced, lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers book that hooked me from the start.

True to its title, the story starts with a blind date between Tara and Aryan, where they click instantly. The couple is in their lala land until a misunderstanding hits between them, which ruins everything.

The author beautifully weaves the lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers arc without ever losing pace, making the reader genuinely feel what the characters are going through. Personally, the banter during the enemies-to-lovers phase is my favorite part.

The writing is easy to follow, and I found the chemistry between tipsy Tara and her grizzly bear, sweet and sizzling hot. The book has it all: lovely characters, spice, funny banters, heartbreak, angst, jealousy, a spark of yearning, and groveling, which makes it a perfect fast-paced romance novel.
