Seasoned travelers dedicated to river education. We blog, collect river water samples globally, and create unique educational products.
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Before there was Darwin or Muir, there was the surveyor who did it in the mud.

Alexander von Humboldt didn't just look at nature; he felt its pulse from the 19,000-foot ledge of Chimborazo to the humid depths of the Amazon. In our latest Kitabu™ we’re breaking the seal on @aswulf Andrea Wulf’s "The Invention of Nature"—a restoration of the man who saw the Earth as one single, breathing organism long before the rest of the world caught up.

It’s time to ditch the screen and see the world through the surveyor’s hand.

Highlighting our session for Larry Rohter’s Into the Amazon. This track follows the legendary Cândido Rondon and Theodore Roosevelt as they mapped the "River of Doubt."

https://www.rivermixer.com/book-review-into-the-amazon-by-larry-rohter-candido-rondon-the-life-of-a-brazilian-legend-and-peacemaker/

Our Kitabu™ sessions act as rhythmic endorsements for the books that define our relationship with the natural world.

The Take: A brilliant look at the bridge between exploration and preservation. It’s the ultimate "river mixing" story.

Diving into Paul Rosolie’s latest, Junglekeeper. This session explores the raw, high-stakes battle to protect the Las Piedras River and the 100,000+ acres his team has fought to save.

https://www.rivermixer.com/paul-rosolie-junglekeeper-book-review-a-gritty-blueprint-for-real-world-conservation/

Kitabu™ is how we translate the "Literature of the Wild" into sound. If it breathes, flows, or thrives outside, it’s in our library.
The Take: Intense and hopeful. Rosolie proves that conservation isn't just about "nature"—it's about the grit, the people, and the profound power of saying "yes" to the wild.

Revisiting our session on Candice Millard’s River of the Gods. This track captures the obsession and grit of the search for the Nile’s source.

Kitabu™ sessions are our rhythmic endorsements for literature of the wild—breathing life into stories that flow through our history.

The Take: A masterpiece of historical tension. It’s about the heavy cost of discovery and the rivers that refuse to be tamed.

STOP THE HEIST

We’re diving into Robert Macfarlane’s Is a River Alive? @robgmacfarlane It’s a challenge to stop treating water as an "It" and start recognizing it as a "Who."

This is a new Kitabu™ session—a rhythmic endorsement for literature of the wild. We use sound and rhythm to capture the pulse of books that breathe, flow, and thrive outside.

https://www.rivermixer.com/book-review-is-a-river-alive-by-robert-macfarlane-the-shifting-baseline-and-the-fight-for-river-personhood/

The Take: The book is electric and essential, even if the final chapters are a heavy lift. The message is too vital to ignore: we have to wake the law from a greedy dream.
Listen to the full track in this post and let us know—Who is the water to you?

A huge thank you to @wadedavisofficial for writing such an incredible book! Magdalena: River of Dreams: A Story of Colombia

We were so entranced after our water-collecting trip to Colombia's Magdalena River that we immediately sought to learn more—and found your amazing work.

We've been collecting river water for many years (138 rivers so far!), but sharing our process is new for us (this is our first Instagram post), and we're excited to see where this project takes us!

Our ongoing research for our weekly blog posts has led us to the work of truly amazing people. It's rewarding to have discovered a diverse community of river enthusiasts, nature lovers, conservationists, anthropologists, scientists, activists, entrepreneurs, etc.

@peoplesriverhistory @cavemanwildlife @devils_river_conservancy @paulrosolie @andresruzo @mikolji @garybencheghib @mo.river.relief @expedition.colombia @daxdasilva @1.mississippi @grasshoppergeography @enil__art

We're collaborating with a local potter to design a custom vessel for each river. Maybe one day, we'll donate the entire collection to a worthy cause.

For now, we're simply enjoying the journey of learning about rivers and their undercelebrated role in shaping who we are.

On a more somber note, the deeper we've ventured into this journey, the more we've learned about the destructive impact of human activity on these precious waterways. We can no longer remain silent; we have a duty to help our community understand how their actions positively and negatively affect the health of our rivers. Over the coming years, hopefully, we'll be able to further articulate how we can achieve a measurable impact by turning this collection into a powerful educational tool and conservation platform.

Exciting Update!

The boys are off to Europe this week! Instead of bulky, empty bottles, we came up with a clever design for small, roll-up river water samples that tuck right into their backpacks. Ready for the next adventure! @htx.mogul
