Hello! Welcome to The Roaming Hind! I’m Laura, a single mum, living near Skipton in the Yorkshire Dales with my teenage son Ayrton and our energetic patterjack Monty and Axle our rescue cat.

We’ve had a rough few years. Tragically Ayrton’s father Syd died of cancer in February 2019 after an 8 year battle. Syd and I divorced prior to his diagnosis, but being friends from childhood and being together romantically since we were 19 and having our gorgeous son Ayrton together we became best friends and excellent co-parents and spent a lot of quality time together. We miss him SO much and it kills me seeing Ayrton yearn for his father, something I will never be able to fix.

I sadly spent 8 years in a highly abusive relationship leaving me with PTSD and in recovery from domestic violence and coercive control. Nature is my greatest healer though, and a lovely wild swim up in the Dales always does the trick on a bad day. I’m not broken by him though, I’m just wiser, stronger and more alert. I am ever evolving and I embrace life and love with an open heart and hope to help others through my life experiences.

So this is us, enjoy the pictures, and videos and I really hope it inspires you to venture out on adventures of your own. Ayrton is autistic with delayed global development so our adventures are tailored to his needs and my budget! Everyone’s battling something these days whether it’s mental health, finances, parenting, work or relationships, my advice is to get yourself outdoors into nature, by yourself or with your family or your friends, it’s so good for the soul and if my boy and I can do it, on a budget too, anyone can 💖✨🙌 My Facebook page is my primary for my updates, adventures and articles, come give us a follow 🙏✨ @theroaminghind taken in Skipton by @theroaminghind

Home away from home, woodland life, and one of our many red squirrel neighbours. Wild swimming and forest bathing, connecting with nature on such a deep level, it’s like society and people no longer exist. Even days of the week, dates and time just melt into unimportance. I literally work my day around how my own body feels and how much light there is and what the weathers doing. Kinda feel like this is how we’re meant to live 💖✨🚐 #vanlife #campervan #vaninterior #camper #vancat taken in Scotland by @theroaminghind

Waking up on the side of a mountain, listening to the Rangers calling the reindeer herd off the fells and in to feed, is literally just a fever dream… and then there’s Monty 😂 bringing the peace smack back down to reality. Sit still dog!! 😂 @cairngormreindeer #vanlife #campervan #scotland #vanlifeuk #vandog taken in Scotland by @theroaminghind

Had to get the ruddy duvet out middle of the night last night, I was cold, and not just ‘stick some socks on, you’ll be reyt’ cold! Adoring this autumns duvet vibe from @hellofurn, so cosy and relaxing, perfect timing after spending a week hanging round at a garage after a small van issue and an RAC call out.

Once again, thank you to @rac_breakdown, you got to us super fast and got the issues diagnosed within 5 minutes too. Running out of gas wasn’t on the cards this week either, normally a big canister lasts atleast 6 months… too many brews 😂

Waking up in one of my favourite places, all issues resolved, in the van all dressed for autumn, cosy, safe, and comfortably back off grid, makes it all worth while.

I’ll post autumn van pics when it’s not raining and the lights better. It’s not as in your face AUTUMN as it usually is, as I’ve had be selective with what I brought for the swap over, but thank god for the heavy duty vacpacs I got a while back, I’ll have to do a post about them too because they’re fantastic, and 4 (double duvet fitting) have been an epic space saver for both duvets, coats, jumpers, towels and my dry robe which is now in full use because swims are ruddy cold now!
