Hey guys. I had to leave my mom today. I didn’t want to, but she told me it was ok. I have been having a hard time doing my duties; don’t get me wrong! I was still protecting her, and believe me I was still fun policing the neighborhood and barky butting! But she saw I was doing it by sheer will. These dumb hips of mine. They just didn’t want to let me do what I wanted.

Mom and that guy, they’ve been so good to me. Me and him, we’re Sourdough Nibbler partners! He’s the best, (but don’t tell him I said that! I still like to stink eye when he hugs my mom) But he told me he’d take care of mom, and even tried to convince me mom can really do it herself. I’m not so sure, but I admit, I am tired. I know mom loves me. I can trust her, and so I’m just going to close my eyes and take a little rest. I know she’ll find me again someday.

I have had the bestest life ever. You and me, mom, me and you. Thank you for picking this little shaggy pup. I gave you the best I could, and I think I gave you a pretty good run for your money!

I love you mom. I’ll see you in the stars ✨ 💫

Except we know the ending. We know when we bring them home, that there will be an ending that is always too soon. I knew there would be grief, I just didn’t know how deep and everlasting it would be this time. But how lucky I was, to have loved this incredible spirit. I will grieve the rest of my life, and I would do it again for him in a heartbeat.

I miss you Old Lion, every day, every night, every sunrise and sunset, every minute.

Guys my mom’s human has a birthday today! He’s a pretty cool guy and my mom is over the moon for him, so I guess I am too. TBH, don’t tell anyone but he gives way better buttrubs and back scritches and I know he can take care of my mom almost as good as me, so I’d like him even if she didn’t.

But if he’s going to hang with a GSD, I need to make him stop wandering off without me, harrumph. That’s when I get all barky n stuff and my mom has to calm me down 🙄 Anyway, happy birthday @peakbagger11! 🎂

Guys it’s my birthday today! I’m 11 years old, can you believe it? I think my mom was supposed to take me to Disney by now but she keeps telling me I wouldn’t like it. She has taken me lots of cool places though and here’s some pictures of the last couple of years, including my very last backpacking trip. Unfortunately my paw and my hip aren’t cooperating with the rest of me and so I can’t do any of those things anymore, sheesh. But pic 4, you can see how cute I was as a wee pup (and also how cute Gabe was too 😉) my mom says I’ve always been really good at taking care of small people.

The very last picture was taken this morning. My mom made me sit by the flower pot 🙄 I told her I’d rather sit in the jeep and show my teeth but she said no 😑 I guess since she has to lift me in and out of it now, I I have to do what she says. I can’t go on runs with my mom anymore or even on a walk longer than a quarter mile- but you better believe that I sit in the chair and stare out the window and complain the entire time she’s gone! The whole neighborhood is happy when she comes home! After all, she needs me. I don’t know what she’ll do when I’m gone. I know she doesn’t know either. But for now she keeps hugging me every day and telling me how much she loves me. I get a little squirmy but I give her a big lick to let her know that I love her too. I know she knows when I sit on her and drool in her face when she’s doing abs!

The nice girl Dobie down the road moved but there’s a new Australian Shepherd that moved in yesterday. I saw her and she looked very happy to see me. Maybe this will finally be the birthday my mom lets me meet a girl!

Guys we had the greatest snowstorm the other day! Now it’s 2/3rds gone and this stupid weather is in the 40s. WTF is wrong with MotherNature! Doesn’t she know it’s January?! This is supposed to be the coldest snowiest time of year and my favorite! What’s a dog gotta do to get snow around here 🙄❄️❄️❄️☃️

Guys my first kitty BFF is SIX YEARS OLD TODAY! When my mom and kid took me to pick him out, he was the only kitten to not run and hide, in fact he came to the door and stuck his paw at me and batted my nose! My mom said “We’ll take that one” and he ruled me ever since. It’s not embarrassing for me cuz I taught him some tricks too, like running to the door when people knock and inspecting them before they are allowed in, taking care of your human and most importantly, letting their puppies play with you and tolerating all their weird human ways. He now has a kid of his own and I’m proud to say he’d make a great GSD! 🐾🐈

Guys it’s National Dog Day! Here is one of the greatest days of my life, from this summer. I could see herd of cows just down over that hill. When my mom was busy cooking, I decided this was my chance. I’m a herding dog after all! I ran down to the small band of four or five cows and started to round them up. Most of them listened but one of them turned around and came at me. Since I am a good dog, and a smart dog, I sat down and decided maybe I should listen to what she had to say. But then I saw my mom coming down and she didn’t look nearly as excited as I thought she would since I was only doing my job. I decided suddenly there was something far more interesting than the cows and beat my mom back up to the tent before she could blink, very satisfied with myself.

Guys! It’s my birthday! I’m 9 today! Last year my mom gave me a bath on my birthday, 🙄 this year I got it earlier so I was excited and thought maybe I’d finally get a nice girl dog for a companion as a birthday present! But no- I’m going to the vet instead for a minor surgery and can’t even have my breakfast! 🙄🙄😆 Is this how birthdays are supposed to work? Lame. Maybe she’ll get me another kitty as a nursemaid, they’re the best. Anyway, don’t I still look good? I can’t run anymore but I’m still good at protecting my mom everywhere else. Even though she has that guy who always gets lost when we’re hiking.
