1200 miles. 6 days. 1980s Honda scooters. On August 31st, @rustorationcycles and I set out on the Trans Wisconsin Adventure Trail (T.W.A.T.), a 630-mile route of backroads, sand, forest trails, 2 track, and rustic roads stretching from Galena, IL to Cornucopia, WI.

Most tackle it on adventure bikes or dual sports—we chose 1980s Honda Elite 150 scooters to up the challenge.

They say you meet the nicest people on a Honda. Along the way we met the kindest curious strangers who offered good conversations, land to camp on, opened restricted spots for photos, even giving us shelter in their concrete precast plant (and feeding us)

This trip reminded me to stop and really take in the beauty around us—historic markers, scenic overlooks, quirky roadside spots. It wasn’t always easy: cold rain, long days, not knowing where we would sleep, and sore bodies pushed us. But after 819 miles, the scooters were still rockin (after some serious abuse from us). So, we pushed further—11.5 hours later, we rolled into my driveway at 1200 miles total.

Tired, sore, and cold—but alive and full of gratitude.

18 years looks pretty good on us. It's not always easy and it'll never be perfect, but I wouldn't want to do it with anyone else. Here's to the adventures we've yet to go on. To the quiet nights in and wild nights out. To cooking dinner together after a long day. To all the days and the to the unknown.

Most importantly, here's to us. I love you so very much. Happy 18 baby

Happy Birthday to my favorite adventure partner.

Normally we'd be out exploring somewhere, finding good food, making memories, and enjoying another trip around the sun together. Unfortunately, this year Lyme disease had other plans for me, and I'm not quite running at full throttle.

But birthdays aren't measured by a single day. They're measured by the people we share our lives with, and I couldn't be more grateful to share mine with you.

Consider this a rain check. As soon as I'm back to 100%, we're celebrating your birthday the way we do best

And just like that we have another workin man in the house! He's on duty and saving lives.... Hopefully with more urgency than he responds to the family group chat.

In all seriousness, he maintains great grades in school, works his ass off on wrestling and now willingly earning his own money. So proud watching him grow to be a good man! by @therockinrev

Yesterday we celebrated Lewis graduating high school and turning 18.

Huge thank you to everyone who came out and made it such a great day. We raced, laughed a ton, ate pizza, and officially welcomed Lew Dog into adulthood (what a sucker).

A lot of you have been part of his journey in one way or another — you photographed him, let him ride your bike(s), encouraged him to try new things, taught him something or just loved him for who he is.

I wish I could thank all of you individually but you know who you are.

They say it takes a village… and his showed up. Really grateful for all of you.

18 years ago, Lewis came into this world—and our lives changed forever. I still remember us sitting on our only chair in the living room, staring at you in your car seat, thinking… what the hell did we just get ourselves into?

18 years later, I’m not sure we’ve fully figured it out—but somehow, you’ve become exactly the young man we hoped you would. Intelligent beyond your years, funny, caring, and unapologetically your own person.

You make us proud (and yeah, sometimes frustrated to no end) all in the same breath—but we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Go be you, kid. Keep bending life to fit the story you’re writing—we know you’re going to do great things in this world.
