Tampa’s cultural landscape is evolving—and we are building its next chapter together. 🏛️✨

We are proud to officially announce The Rooted Door as the official 501(c)(3) non-profit partner for Art Fair Tampa!

This collaboration was born from a shared conviction: Tampa deserves cultural experiences that refuse to settle for the traditional.

While Art Fair Tampa reimagines what a modern art fair can be, The Rooted Door is dedicated to transforming raw, unconventional environments and unexpected spaces into groundbreaking, site-specific theatrical worlds.

Together, we share an uncompromising commitment to our city—proving that world-class, boundary-pushing art belongs right here at home.

About The Rooted Door

Recognized locally as a Tampa Bay Times “Best of the Best” Bronze winner for Best Local Theater Company, The Rooted Door has also earned major international acclaim—taking home top global creative, design, and community impact honors (including Platinum Hermes, Gold MUSE, and Communitas awards) for our flagship production, Secret Spaces.

We create bold, multi-sensory immersive experiences that elevate Tampa Bay’s cultural scene while championing homegrown talent and meaningful community impact.

Our mission is simple yet vital: to fortify our cultural arts by providing fair-wage opportunities for local performers and crew, funding higher education scholarships for emerging talent, and practicing creative placemaking that revitalizes overlooked spaces across our city.

Great cities don’t just import culture—they nurture and sustain their own artists.

As we step into this partnership, we invite you to be part of the movement:

👉 Follow @TheRootedDoor and @ArtFairTampa to go behind the scenes of what we’re creating together.

👉 Support the mission: Head to the link in bio or visit therooteddoor.com to make a direct contribution via Zeffy and help fuel Tampa’s independent artists and creators.

See you on the floor at Art Fair Tampa.

Let’s make history together. . . .

When art and purpose come together, the whole room changes.

Art has the rare power to do more than entertain—it can heal, inspire, and bring an entire community together around a shared purpose.

We are deeply honored to partner with @pascokidsfirst for this year’s Paint the Night Blue gala at @spartanmanor .

Our team has been pouring our hearts into creating an unforgettable evening of live music, dance, and immersive storytelling designed to move the room and shine a bright light on the vital work of child advocacy.

We want every guest to truly feel the magic of what happens when we gather not just to watch a performance, but to stand united in creating real, positive impact for local children and families.

Every movement and every note we are preparing carries that message.
We cannot wait to share this powerful evening with everyone in the room, and to stand alongside an organization doing such essential work in our community.

Updated Call to Action (CTA):
Follow @therooteddoor to step inside our upcoming secret worlds, and visit @pascokidsfirst to learn how you can support their vital mission. 🗝️

Street art is Tampa’s most honest historical archive.

Spanning nearly 12,000 square feet along Adamo Drive, American Journey—created under the artistic direction of Tampa Bay artist Michael Parker alongside HCC Ybor art students and local volunteers—proves that massive walls can hold an entire city’s soul.

From labor struggles and factory heritage to the faces of modern youth, it anchors Ybor’s immigrant heartbeat in corrugated steel.
Now take that scale and pull it inside.

Imagine stepping through an unmarked door into an intimate, secret space where an artist is actively painting the narrative walls around you—brushstrokes capturing the scene in real time as the story unfolds.

As we design the rooms for our upcoming production, we want the community’s voice in the blueprint:

Tag a local Tampa muralist or street artist whose work belongs in a secret space. 👇

Most people experience opera from row K: protected by distance, dim lighting, and velvet ropes.

Watching this breathtaking moment from @nordicduets / @nordveilofficial—where unamplified vocal power shifts the entire atmosphere of the space—sparked a question in our design room.

In our world, the fourth wall doesn’t exist.
Imagine opening a heavy, unmarked door into low amber light and rough masonry, only to find a voice of this caliber singing directly to you. No microphones. No stage. Just raw acoustic resonance shaking the floorboards two feet away.

We’re curating the live experiences for our upcoming spaces right now, and we believe great art should be felt, not just heard:
Imagine being one of only a handful of people in a candlelit room when a voice of this caliber fills the air unamplified.

Drop YES if this is an experience you need to witness, or TAG a friend who you’d bring with you.

Four distinct doors. Four immersive worlds waiting to be unlocked.

Behind every door lies an unforgettable atmosphere designed to awaken your senses:

A Nostalgic Era — Step back into the timeless hum, velvet warmth, and kinetic energy of days gone by.

A Mysterious Natural World — Get lost in an overgrown, glowing sanctuary where nature holds secrets untold.

A Secret Speakeasy — Slip past the velvet curtain into a clandestine room alive with candlelight, spirits, and live rhythm.

A Magical Seasonal Experience — Wander down an ethereal, snow-dusted birch path bathed in lantern light and winter wonder.

Step up to the threshold and choose your journey.

Which world calls to you? Drop your choice in the comments. 🚪✨

Set Dressing (noun): Clues hiding in plain sight that you only notice the second time around.

In an immersive world, nothing on the stage is an accident. Every prop, texture, and shadow carries history—and tells a chapter of the story before a single line is spoken.
Swipe through to see what was hidden in plain sight:

1931 Factory Floor: Authentic Cuesta Rey cigar boxes and tools transport the room to a defining era, matched by real dried tobacco leaves hung overhead and hand-stained paper treatments inspired by original Ybor City factories.

The Living Room: A period-authentic rotary phone and tabletop radio anchor the era, alongside an original issue of La Gaceta—Tampa’s historic Spanish-language daily since 1922—while glowing screens flicker with surreal, dreamstate visions.

The Reflection: A tense domino match played against a mirror, surrounded by walls covered in black-and-white archival Tampa photography, framed by an image of Cuba directly behind him—the homeland left behind for the life being built ahead.

The Departure: A solitary typewriter drafting final goodbye letters before the crossing to Tampa, with a suitcase packed and waiting for the journey about to unfold.

How many of these details did you catch while you were in the room?

Drop your favorite hidden detail in the comments, or tell us what you’re looking for next time. 🗝️

Welcome to the many emotions of an immersive experience:

• Suspicion: “Wait… what is this? Did you bring me to a haunted house?”

• Panic: “Why is the actor looking at me. Please don’t pick me. DO NOT pick me.”

• Confusion: “What did you get me into and do I have to participate?”

• Awe: “Okay wait… this is the best thing I’ve ever experienced.”

• The Convert: “I’ve officially crossed over. I can never sit in a normal theater seat again.”

Step in, enjoy the show, and prepare yourself for the next invite… because once you walk through the door, you will never be the same. 🗝️✨

Every historic street corner holds a memory. Every old brick building carries a pulse. 🕯️

Salt air drifting off the bay,
aged cedar from a cigar press,
rain hitting warm asphalt at midnight,
or the sweet aroma of
Cuban bread and café con leche
drifting down the brick streets…

So much of how we experience a city is rooted in our senses—and that’s where our stories always begin.

💬 Tell us below: If your favorite memory of this city had a scent, what would it be? (We’ll be pinning the most evocative answers in the comments!) 👇

Every key held a character. Every door held a story. 🗝️✨

In Secret Spaces, you didn’t just watch from the outside—you stepped through the threshold, unlocked a room, and entered the heartbeat of our city’s past:

🚪 The Soul — A voice of undeniable power and grace, singing hope into a segregated world.
🚪 The Foreman — Cigar smoke and relentless grit, turning long factory hours into opportunity.
🚪 The Poet — Guiding seekers across the threshold with spoken truth into the unseen. 🚪 The Traveler — A packed suitcase by her feet, writing down the memories that couldn't be spoken.
🚪 The Dreamer — Movement that shattered the boundaries and defied the gravity of the room.
🚪 The Concierge — Warmth, connection, and a listening ear across the vintage telephone line.
🚪 The Muse — Passion, longing, and unspoken truth.
🚪 The Pioneer — Carrying home across oceans to build a life from scratch in a new land.

For those who stepped into the rooms: Which door did you open? Whose story stayed with you?
(And for those who haven’t stepped through yet… the next door opens soon.) 🚪🌿
