Following on from my previous post of the Schiaparelli bottle, here is a snippet from a television interview my Nan did for her first public exhibition in 1986. In this clip, you can hear her talking firsthand about her absolute treasured piece in the entire collection - the miniature bottle of "Shocking" de Schiaparelli. ​Welcome to The Ruth Warner Collection. 🌸🏛️ ​My late Nan, Ruth Warner, started collecting in 1977. Over the decades, she built a collection of vintage perfume bottles, powder compacts, and vanity ephemera so historically significant that she was recognized across the perfume world. ​Her collection and knowledge led her to curate exhibitions for the Victoria & Albert Museum, London in 1997, Dickens and Jones in 1982, The Royal College of Arts, London in 1995, and Harvey Nichols in 1983. Her estate was so renowned that she hosted legendary perfume icons like Jean-Paul Guerlain and Annette Green at her home just to view it. She also appeared on numerous television interviews and shows. ​As her granddaughter, I have taken on the monumental task of cataloging her thousands of treasures, with nearly 2,000 items safely archived on my spreadsheet so far! I still have a long way to go, with thousands more to catalogue. ​I am using this page to share her incredible journey, her handwritten historical notes, and her stunning pieces as I catalogue them before building an official online museum. My Nan meant the world to me, and I feel so incredibly honored to be the one protecting her legacy. ​Thank you for being here to help me keep her legacy alive. While my last post featured the French Roger & Gallet edition, these emerald "Rosalie" (Rosalien-Flasche) flacons bring us straight to Cologne, Germany - home of the world's oldest original Eau de Cologne factory, founded in 1709 by Johann Maria Farina. These commemorative sets recreate Farina's iconic 18th century design, but comparing the two boxes side-by-side reveals subtle production shifts: One features classic hot stamped or engraved script on a simple lift off lid. The other features printed branding on a hinged box. Eau de Cologne Jean Marie Farina 🏛 ​By @rogergallet, dating back to c. 1900-1910. Finding a piece like this, complete with its original wooden crate, sealed glass flacon, and the accompanying historical prospectus, is an absolute dream for the collection. Originally created in 1806, this iconic formula was famously loved and worn by Napoleon Bonaparte! ​Swipe to see the back of the insert. It lists a chronological timeline of court judgments from 1814 to 1900 where Roger & Gallet successfully sued counterfeiters to protect their original recipe. Proof that trademark battles were alive and well in the 19th century! P.S. A little Dior mystery today! I found this gorgeous branded feather in the collection and I had to bring the Pure Poison bottle back out to photograph them together. ​The feather has official Dior and Pure Poison tags on the quill, but its origins are a mystery to me. Does anyone know the history behind this piece? Was it a promotional gift, part of a special release, or a boutique display item? ​If there are any Dior historians or vintage collectors out there who recognise this, I would absolutely love to hear the story behind it!
