We loved to read all the comments, thoughts and opinions that we received from you all after our last post.
What we find truly heartwarming is that a big amount of all the comments came from actual skiers ⛷️.
We had no idea that we have so many fans from the ski industry, but this new revelation brings us to our question for the weekend.

Whether you want it to be true or not…

The simple truth is that snowboarding actually saved the ski industry!

By the 1970s the ski industry was essentially stagnant and by the 1990s the decline was huge and felt worldwide. Many ski brands and resorts were struggling financially and shutting down.
Snowboarding’s fast growing popularity, especially among young people, made ski resorts realize it was a lucrative market, leading to a surge in lift ticket sales and an expansion of the winter sports market.
The number of people engaging in winter sports began to rise again after a long period of stagnation in skiing. Resorts that allowed snowboarding saw a significant increase in overall visitors and revenue. All the resorts that initially banned snowboarding were forced to change their policies to attract these new customers. It was crucial since the average age of the skier was increasing rapidly.

Snowboarding and it’s associated culture created new markets for equipment, clothing, accessories and even media, increasing overall revenue for resorts and retailers worldwide.

The ski brands saw their chance to make a lot of money on this new ”trend”. They already had the factories to make the products and all the sporting goods retailers and rental stores to sell them too, so they started making their own boards while pouring most of their profits back into skiing and the ski industry.
Meanwhile the original snowboard brands were the ones that supported all the snowboard shops, all the contests and so on.

No one is perfect. We all make mistakes. Some of us more than others. It’s the simple truth.

What matters is what we learn from our mistakes and how we move forward.
How we grow as human beings.

Terje ( @chocorompe ) is the greatest snowboarder of all time.
We can say that he’s the perfect snowboarder. Yet he’s only human. Humans are never perfect even if many of us strive to be or perhaps think that we are.

What will we learn if we fail to forgive a person like Terje for saying a stupid joke 6 years ago? Something he’s made several public apologies for and seems to regret.
What will we learn from that when we still have no problem forgiving and forgetting about the numerous stupid “mistakes” that the “Big B” have made over and over again during the years?

What makes it ok to turn our backs at a single person that has done more for snowboarding and inclusivity in snowboarding than anyone while we still continue to support a huge corporate business that for example have exploited the female body over and over again as a way to market themselves and to sell more products?

Anyone who’s been into snowboarding for more than 10 years know this.
Or did you forget about the @BurtonSnowboards 2016 Burton x @PlayBoy Centerfold series (swipe for picture)?

Yes, in 2021 Burton snowboards aim to be very woke and politically correct but the same year as Terje said that one stupid joke “The Big B” did a whole series of boards together with PlayBoy Magazine. Objectifying women and exploiting the female body as a way of making more money.

Did Burton ever make any public apologies to the snowboard community and to women in general for objectifying women over and over again and for being in the frontline when it comes to making some of the most sexist snowboard graphics in the last two decades?
Remember the Burton Love Series from 2009 or perhaps the Custom Restricted series from 2014 (swipe for pictures)?

So do you hate Burton or do you choose not to support them because of their previous mistakes? Or do you love them for how politically correct they strive to be today?

The first ever @melter_hel Rail Jam by @helsinginlumilautailijat went down in Helsinki this past Saturday and it was a great success! 🙌🏼🇫🇮
