**As of today 2/21, the majority of rescue organizations have withdrawn efforts and there are only a handful left with support slowing down. In just a few small Palisades neighborhoods alone, we have 10 cats confirmed to be alive before the storm… and there are countless more out there across these massive burn zones. Just last night WUFAW rescued one of these cats. It takes a lot of patience and effort to go out and re-bait/set new traps daily. With manpower and resources dwindling, our odds are stacking against us.

The rescue organizations are spread thin as is, and understandably they have to shift their focus back to the rest of the SoCal animals that desperately need their help. By next week there may be only a couple organizations out trying to trap and bring these animals home. My mission remains the same. With your help we don’t have to give up on our furry friends.

“We are running out of time. It’s been a month since the fires broke out and we’re still finding pets that were presumed to be lost along with their homes. We’ve reached a critical point as EPA and demolition crews have begun their cleanup operations. There are still countless animals hiding in the rubble of these homes and the ones we know about have already been extremely difficult to trap. Once the heavy demolition begins it’s going to scare them away and make them much more difficult to find/trap.

44 Days of Saving Lives – Help Sean Keep Going

My friend Sean is not only an incredible fire photographer but also a hero. During the Palisades Fire, he put his camera down to rescue animals trapped in the chaos. Now, 44 days later, while many rescue organizations have pulled out, Sean is still searching for beloved pets—giving them a second chance.

Many of these animals have been surviving in the rubble for weeks, suffering from burnt paws, respiratory issues, and trauma. Sean is determined to keep going, but he needs your help. With supplies running low and costly repairs needed on his vehicle, every bit of support makes a difference.

Firefighters are actively responding to the Jasper Fire burning near Agoura Hills tonight with both ground and air resources working the incident. Crews remain engaged in aggressive attack operations as smoke continues to be visible across parts of the Conejo Valley and western Los Angeles County.

⚠️ CURRENT STATUS:
• Fire crews remain on scene working containment lines and monitoring fire behavior.
• Helicopters and air support have been active making water drops over the fire area.
• Residents nearby should stay alert for possible road closures, evacuation updates, and changing fire conditions.
• Smoke conditions may continue impacting Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Westlake Village, Thousand Oaks, and surrounding communities overnight.

🔥SANDY FIRE UPDATE (SIMI VALLEY)🔥
The Sandy Fire burning in Simi Valley is now approximately 2,141.2 acres and 30% contained as firefighters continue strengthening containment lines and mopping up hotspots around the fire perimeter. Air and ground crews remain assigned to the incident as operations continue overnight.

⚠️ CURRENT STATUS: • Containment has increased to 30%. • Some evacuation orders have now been lifted, though certain warnings and road closures may still remain in place. • Firefighters continue working steep terrain and difficult access areas to fully secure containment lines. • Residents are still encouraged to stay alert for changing conditions and official emergency updates.

💨 SSFL AIR MONITORING UPDATE: Due to the Sandy Fire’s proximity to the Santa Susana Field Laboratory (SSFL), hazardous materials and radiological monitoring teams continue air quality and radiation monitoring around the fire area. Monitoring locations have been established across Chatsworth, Bell Canyon, Oak Park, Simi Valley, and nearby communities to track smoke and environmental conditions. Officials say the fire has NOT reached SSFL property, and there is currently no indication of any radiological release from the site.

The Sandy Fire burning in Simi Valley has now grown to approximately 2,114.5 acres and is currently 22% contained as firefighters continue battling the blaze with aggressive air and ground operations. Tankers, helicopters, and hand crews remain active throughout the fire zone working to strengthen containment lines and protect nearby communities.

⚠️ CURRENT STATUS:
• Fire activity continues in steep terrain and dry vegetation.
• Multiple agencies remain assigned to the incident.
• Evacuation warnings and road closures may continue changing as conditions shift.
• Residents should stay alert and monitor official emergency alerts for updates.

💨 AIR QUALITY UPDATE:

🚨 SANDY FIRE UPDATE (SIMI VALLEY) 🚨
The fast-moving Sandy Fire has exploded to nearly 1,700 acres with only 5% containment. Hundreds of firefighters are battling the blaze with air and ground support.

⚠️ THE DETAILS:
• Mandatory evacuations are in effect for tens of thousands of residents.
• At least one home has been destroyed.
• A temporary evacuation point is at Rancho Santa Susana Community Park.
• Shelter for large animals is at the Ventura County Fairgrounds, and small animals can go to the Simi Valley Animal Shelter.

Mystery the Palisades Fire Survivor 🔥

Our incredible Palisades Paw Patrol team @wufaw_official @thescarygary @jennsavespaws @urbanpanthersrescue @ugh_icant began seeing a fluffy cat of a healthy weight on one of our trail cams a couple of weeks after the fires devastatingly ravished and flattened the Pacific Palisades. At this point we had seen just about every post of which cats were lost/missing, and none of them matched her. So she was a Mystery.

The idea of a cat losing their family & their home, everything they knew reduced to rubble, nobody coming to feed them, traipsing through hazardous burned down material with their teensy paw pads, breathing in ash, surrounded by hungry coyotes absolutely killed us. So we were super invested in catching Mystery. We all rotated who went out & baited/re-baited/switched out cam batts etc., with @thescarygary truly taking on the bulk of the hours of work.

Two weeks later on 2/7 she finally entered the trap 🥹🎉 We were ELATED to have her safe finally. @thescarygary was already in the burn zone but due to extreme restrictions surrounding the area, @californiahighwaypatrol kindly escorted him in their patrol car to pick up the trapped cat 😅

Sean took her to my place that night where we scanned for a chip (there wasn’t one) & put her into a crate before we planned to take her to WLA shelter who was handling all Palisades wildfire pet reunifications. She meowed endlessly & allowed lots of petting, signs she was a previously owned pet.

@wufaw_official and I took her to WLA & signed up for first rights, meaning if nobody came for her during 30 day stray hold, we would be first in line to pull her.

Nobody ever came. So she’s ours now 😌

We recently found out that @vivaglobalrescue trapped another cat in the same vicinity who WAS chipped. The elderly owner verified that she owned another 2 cats, one being Mystery! They were all 3 outdoor only cats, and she’d had 6 yr old Mystery since she was just a kitten 😭

Her survival is a miracle. She’s BEYOND frazzled. She needs the MOST patient adopter. She’s never lived inside before but she absolutely deserves to.

Learned 1st hand how resilient cats are, last night. 2 Skunks 2 Opossums & 1 Kitty (Spotted On One Of The Trail Cams) .

Wanted to ride with 1 of the trappers that's having lots of success despite being new to Cat Trapping. I scooped @TheScaryGary at 5 pm, we went straight to work . Baiting , Re-Locating & Setting New Traps All Over The Burn Areas. We set around 20 cameras when the rain started 🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️ We quickly switched gears . Jumped in the "Animal-Bulance" and raced to every trap we just set. We had to quickly zip tie each of the 20 traps open to avoid injuring any wildlife or cats . These traps are literally set from Entrada to Serra Retreat. It was during this time that we spotted this Purrrfect Fur Ball. Unfortunately, it was in 1 of the traps we had already locked open . Buttttt after riding with Sean for literally 16 hours, I know without a doubt he will catch this kitty . TBC ...

Thank You Sean for the hands-on experience. I am looking forward to our next lifesaving mission.
