POSTS STORIES REELS

A little BTS from the Meat Bird Processing Class 🐓.

One of the most beautiful parts of witnessing this workshop was seeing the children fully participate 🐥. They weren’t standing off to the side watching the adults do the work. They were right there, hands in, learning, helping, asking questions, and taking part in the process from beginning to end 😍. Those that needed courage were held by their elders 🤗.

There was something powerful about watching a community harvest these birds together while also remembering how our people have always done this kind of work together 🕯️🗝️.

So much gratitude to @seedsnsoil and @kinandflofarm for creating the space, sharing the knowledge, and allowing families to learn this work together 🌿.

And shoutout to @by.ellejoseph for capturing these behind-the-scenes moments so beautifully 📸.

Today is Day 14 of enrollment for the 31 Days of Hoodoo Challenge 💙.

From October 1–31, we’re spending the month learning, practicing, talking culture, remembering our traditions, and getting deeper into the work together 🗝️.

Enrollment is open through September 30 🥚.

Join us at hoodooheritagefest.com 📜.

This one is for my great-grandfather, Joseph Cherry🤎

He was the one who purchased the land that I’m blessed to steward today. Growing up, everyone knew him as the watermelon man, so it only felt right that the first thing I planted when I came back to his land was a watermelon patch.

Seeing the first little watermelon growing this morning made me smile. It’s a reminder that this work didn’t start with me. I’m just picking up where my ancestors left off.

What story does your land tell? Let’s chat in the comments. 🌿 by @theseedoflifefarm

This little fairy garden holds a special place in my heart. It was created in honor of my great-grandmother, Mattie Cherry, whose love continues to bloom across our family and this land.

My daughter Luna is the sixth generation to steward our family land, and I’m so blessed to carry this legacy forward alongside my children. Every seed we plant and every story we share is another way of honoring those who came before us.

One of the greatest gifts my great-grandmother gave me was her sweet potato pie recipe. My great-grandfather grew sweet potatoes right here on the homestead, and every holiday our family gathered around the table to bake pies together. Looking back, I realize she wasn’t just teaching a recipe. She was teaching us the importance of tradition and creating memories that would last for generations.

What’s one thing your grandmother taught you that you’ll carry with you for the rest of your life? I’d love to hear your stories in the comments. 🤎🌱 by @theseedoflifefarm

Meet Bianca “Umii” Anthony (she/her)
Founder of @theseedoflifefarm

Umii is a returning-generation farmer, holistic wellness practitioner, and mother of three stewarding her family’s land in Bertie County, North Carolina. Grounded in her Afro-Indigenous heritage, she founded @theseedoflifefarm , a seven-acre sanctuary where culturally relevant produce, cut flowers, and medicinal herbs are grown to nourish and heal the community. The farm also serves as a safe space for land-based wellness programming rooted in lived experience and ancestral knowledge. She is a proud alumna of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and serves as the Community Garden Director for the Town of Ahoskie, supporting food access and community-based initiatives across eastern North Carolina. Lots of fun with @seedsnsoil at The Ahoskie Community Garden today!

The children made natural bird feeders, sowed winter greens, helped trim the orchard and learned about farm rabbits! If you’re in Eastern NC and want to join us next time just send a DM so we can send you more details!

Tiny hands in the flowers and the freedom to grow wild! 🌸🌿

Shout out to @wetland_maroon and the cute little goats at Maroon Grove Freedom Farm 🤎 by @theseedoflifefarm

I used to chase a version of success that never felt like mine. Law school drained me, dimmed me, disconnected me from who I really was.

Then life rerouted me.
Through heartbreak.
Through single motherhood.
Through the kind of obstacles that make you question everything.

And somehow… the land saved me. Farming, mothering, slowing down. That’s where I found the happiness I was searching for all along.

Today I’m honored to step fully into that purpose as a 2026–2027 Braiding Seeds Fellow. Congrats to all the members of the new cohort! 🤎🌱 by @theseedoflifefarm

CFSA’s Sustainable Ag Conference was everything I needed and more! I left inspired, fulfilled and with tons of new meaningful connections. 🌿🌿🌿 by @theseedoflifefarm

Returning-generation farmer and community herbalist Bianca “Umi” Anthony shares how she’s reclaiming seven acres of her family’s 1950s land in rural Bertie County, NC—reviving legacy, building Seed of Life Farm, and raising her three kids “no screens” while they learn to grow. We talk medicinal herbs and cut flowers, creating a healing space for community retreats, the realities of solo stewardship and mentorship, and why a deer fence and basic infrastructure matter for the first growing season. Umi invites listeners into a vision of generational healing rooted in the soil.

Mattie and Joseph’s child, grand children, great-grand children, great-great-grandchildren, cousins, neighbors and friends gathered to celebrate the continued legacy of the land on what would have been her 100th birthday.

I couldn’t have asked a more powerful experience on the land! We’ll do it again for our first harvest festival in June, stay tuned to follow our journey. 🫶🏽 by @theseedoflifefarm
