Someone asked: “How much can you earn in Tech Sales?”
Take a look at my response: Your earnings in tech sales largely depend on two things - “productivity “ and “ambition”. How well you perform and how ambitious you are can significantly influence your income.
For example:
Entry-level tech sales reps in Nigeria can expect to earn around ₦200,000–₦250,000 per month.
After the first year, with good performance, this can increase to about ₦350,000–₦600,000.
With 2–3 years of experience, you can start aiming for leadership roles like Head of Sales, which come with higher base salaries and bigger commission opportunities.
So, in tech sales, your growth is very much tied to your results and willingness to push yourself. Truth is, we are willing to guide you.

Watch the video to the end, then thank me later.

Meanwhile, access to the first 30minutes of the Tech Sales Course is still available, simply send us a DM.

While I was studying Electrical Engineering at the university, I used to brag that I could talk to any girl on campus...

Because when you really think about it, talking to someone you've never met and getting them interested enough to continue the gist is not very different from prospecting.

While learning how to swim, I learnt there is this principle that says, “You don't test the depth of the swimming pool with both feet.” The African version says, “You do not test the depth of the river with both feet.” And honestly, I have carried that principle into sales.

Not everybody you meet needs to immediately become a prospect. Sometimes, you need to take a step back and allow the person to become a pre-prospect first.

For example, imagine I meet you at an event, and I discover that you're the Head of HR at a company that could potentially use the HR technology I'm selling. The average salesperson sees the opportunity and immediately switches into sales mode. “Ah, you are Head of HR? Interesting. We actually have a solution that can help your organisation automate your entire HR process. Can I book 30 minutes with you next week?”

I prefer to have a conversation first.

Maybe I ask him what brought him to the event. Maybe we talk about the industry. Maybe we talk about something happening in the Nigerian business environment. Maybe he mentions that his company is expanding, and I ask him how that is going. Maybe we don't even talk about work at all.

Now we've started talking...Not salesperson and prospect...Human being and human being.

Because the moment someone believes that you've called them simply because you want to sell something, their defence mechanisms naturally come up. They're waiting for the pitch. They're waiting for the price. They're waiting for you to ask for the meeting, the demo, the proposal or the payment.
But when you approach them as a normal human being, they become more relaxed. They start talking. You start learning things that you probably wouldn't discover if you rushed into your pitch.

And if there is a legitimate business opportunity, I'll discover it from the conversation.

Persistence and Followup in sales is one mindset shift that has worked for me. taken in Lagos, Nigeria by @theseyioke

Few weeks ago I trained the sales and growth team at @myaccionmfb, and we addressed two major concerns...

The first is this whole idea of moving from a product-focused mindset to a solution-oriented one. It sounds like one of those things everyone nods at and forgets by the next day, but it’s actually the difference between a merchant hearing you out and a merchant shutting you down in the first ten seconds.

Most sales reps, not just in banking, walk up to a business owner and basically say, “We have a product we’d like to show you.” And even though it seems normal, that sentence is doing something quietly bad. It’s telling the merchant’s brain, “here comes a sales pitch,” and Nigerian business owners have built up serious defenses against that. They’ve heard it from POS agents, insurance reps, church members, everybody. So the wall goes up before you’ve even said what the product does.

The second thing that got a lot of attention was using AI to completely change how they prospect. Instead of the old “walk the street, knock on doors, hope for the best” approach, we talked about using AI to research territories before ever stepping outside. Something as simple as prompting it to find, say, thirty supermarkets in a specific location that are actively operating, or to identify pharmacies and electronics stores within a certain radius, prioritizing the ones with multiple branches or high transaction potential. That alone turns hours of blind walking into a focused, data-backed starting point.

We also used AI to organise it into a proper pipeline, structuring the research into fields like business name, location, category, contact, decision maker, and lead score.

What stood out to me most is watching people who’ve been doing manual prospecting for years realize they’ve been doing the hardest version of the job the whole time. AI doesn’t replace sales skills, relationship building, or closing. It just clears out all the guesswork before you even get in the field, so your energy goes into the conversations that actually matter.
