SLAM is proud to share that the L’Oréal Research & Innovation Center has achieved LEED Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (@usgbc).

Marrying ambitious sustainability goals with data-driven design, the project reflects L’Oréal’s commitment to a low-carbon future, dramatically reducing energy, carbon, and water use. Achieving LEED Platinum certification is especially noteworthy given the facility’s complex program as a research and innovation center that also incorporates laboratory , manufacturing and consumer testing functions, making its sustainability performance even more remarkable.

SLAM worked closely with @atelier_ten, the project's sustainability and LEED consultant, to integrate design strategies that helped achieve LEED Platinum certification. Key initiatives include a 10,000-panel solar array, an integrated microgrid, advanced HVAC systems with air-cooled heat pumps, a high-performance building envelope, and daylighting strategies that reduce lighting demand and enhance occupant wellbeing.

Congratulations to L'Oréal and project collaborators on this outstanding achievement! by @theslamcollaborative

With summer’s end fast approaching, SLAM-designed buildings continue to demonstrate their value beyond the traditional academic calendar. Throughout the summer, athletic venues have hosted camps and community events, schools have offered recreation, wellness programs, and essential health services, and medical schools have welcomed younger learners for hands-on education and mentorship that introduces them to future careers.

When facilities are designed for flexibility, shared use, and connection, they become more than places for learning; they become year-round community assets. Check out our latest Stories from the Inside for a closer look at how SLAM-designed spaces support learning and strengthen communities all year long.

SLAM was honored to lend our design expertise to support City of Refuge and City School Atlanta in the early planning and design vision for their new elementary school, recently celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Atlanta's historic Westside.

The new 7,500-SF school expands City School Atlanta's educational offerings to include Kindergarten through 2nd grade, creating spaces that foster learning, curiosity, and opportunity for nearly 100 students each year. By helping students build strong foundations earlier in their educational journey, the expansion will have a lasting impact on future academic success.

We are proud to have played a role in a project that helps strengthen communities and expand access to quality education. City of Refuge is an Atlanta-based non-profit dedicated to supporting individuals and families as they build pathways to stability, opportunity, and long-term success.

Training tables are evolving beyond places to refuel.

Today, they serve as strategic hubs for performance, recovery, team culture, and campus connection. Since 2014, SLAM has designed more than 20 training tables that support the modern student-athlete experience while creating adaptable spaces that offer value beyond athletics.

A new era for student-athlete performance, wellness, and connection.

With today's official ribbon cutting on the Thomas A. Fanning Student-Athlete Performance Center at Georgia Institute of Technology (@georgiatech), the new 100,000 SF facility brings together strength and conditioning, sports medicine, nutrition, sports analytics, and football operations within a unified, high-performance environment designed to support the holistic student-athlete experience.

Located at the northeast corner of Bobby Dodd Stadium, the new facility provides an indoor/outdoor space on gameday as well as unmatched views of the Midtown skyline year-round. Sustainable strategies, including Cross Laminated Timber on the 4th floor and the re-use of steel members from the north end zone, further reflect a design approach focused on resilience, well-being, and long-term impact.

As we celebrate #NursesWeek, SLAM is proud to honor the people and the environments shaping the next generation of caregivers.

At Georgia Southern University, that commitment comes to life through SLAM’s design of their 63,250 SF Health Professions Academic Building. Transcending a traditional classroom, nurses are supported by human-centered learning and through integrated clinical simulation environments.

This Nurses Week, we celebrate not only the dedication of future nurses, but the spaces that inspire them to grow.
