Meet our 2026 LAIF Juror

Kanso Ogbolu @thesmilinghat
VFX Artist & Animation Specialist, Alfred International

Kanso Ogbolu is a Nigerian-born creative based in the Netherlands, working at the intersection of storytelling, design and animation. With over 16 years of experience across the creative sector, his work spans architecture, advertising, visual storytelling and animation.

He holds a Master’s degree in Animation, graduating cum laude from St Joost School of Art and Design in the Netherlands. At Alfred International B.V., he works as a VFX Artist and Animation Specialist, translating ideas into compelling visual experiences from concept through to final execution.

Kanso is also an Animation Director at OBK Studios, where he develops original IPs, content ideas and animation experiments. His work has earned recognition across multiple film festivals, reflecting both his technical expertise and ability to create stories that connect with audiences.

He will be judging the NON ADS LAIF category.

🎬 Greenlight goes into production.

Last week, Femke’s Final Complaint became the first of our three selected Greenlight projects to be shot.

From pitch to preparation and now to set, it’s exciting to see the first film from this new programme becoming a reality.

A huge congratulations to Kanso Oğbolu and the entire team behind Femke’s Final Complaint for completing the shoot. The film now moves into post-production, while AERF and On the Volcano are getting ready to shoot soon.

And this is only the beginning.

Thank you isn't enough if I'm going to be honest but it's all I have right now. Thank you, thank you and thank you. First and foremost to every single one of you who donated to make this film happen, to those who liked and shared and to those who just simply asked about it. Thank you.

Thank you to the cast and crew. We shot yesterday and they were absolutely amazing. My gratitude towards each and every one of you is endless.

Post production (the real work) will start soon and well, it's VFX heavy so it'll take a while but best believe imma come through and make you all proud. Follow @femkesfinalcomplaint for all the updates.

“Ik heb het je nu al drie keer uitgelegd, Willem. DRIE KEER. Het afval voor de recycling hoort op dinsdag in de BLAUWE container. Niet in de groene. Niet op woensdag. DINSDAG. BLAUW. Is dat nou echt zo moeilijk? Want ik schrijf het graag op een gelamineerd kaartje als dat helpt.”

De “kleine” dingen waar we over klagen zijn vaak een symptoom van iets dat dieper zit. Is Femke echt boos om de afvalcontainers, of speelt er eigenlijk iets heel anders? 🤔♻️🤬

The “small” things we complain about are usually a symptom of something bigger, hidden beneath the surface. Is Femke really mad about the recycling bins, or is there something else going on? 🤔♻️🤬

We hebben 35 dagen de tijd om €8.000 op te halen. Hiermee dekken we de basiskosten, zoals catering, reiskosten en de vergoedingen voor cast en crew.

Ontmoet de maker: Kanso Ogbolu – Animator

Voor Passing the Lens ontwikkelde Kanso de geanimeerde intro en outro van de serie. Daarmee gaf hij het project een herkenbare visuele identiteit. Voor de animatie liet hij zich inspireren door het beeld van God en Adam uit Michelangelo’s fresco in de Sixtijnse Kapel. Een subtiele verwijzing naar verbinding, overdracht en creativiteit.

Kanso is een animator, VFX-artist en storyteller met Nigeriaanse roots en een thuisbasis in Nederland. Zijn werk bevindt zich op het snijvlak van design, animatie en film, altijd met een sterke focus op visueel vertellen.

Na zijn cum laude afstuderen aan de Master Animation van St. Joost School of Art & Design bouwde hij aan meer dan vijftien jaar ervaring in creatieve vakgebieden, van architectuur tot advertising. Die brede achtergrond geeft hem een unieke blik op beeld en verhaal, waarin technische precisie en creatieve verbeelding samenkomen.

Naast zijn werk voor opdrachtgevers ontwikkelt hij ook eigen verhalen en filmprojecten. Nu werkt hij aan een horror-IP waarin sfeer, spanning en emotie centraal staan. Zijn werk werd bekroond op verschillende filmfestivals en laat zien hoe animatie een krachtig middel is om verhalen voelbaar te maken.

En wie denkt dat zijn talenten zich beperken tot beeldschermen, heeft hem waarschijnlijk nog nooit op een feestje meegemaakt! Grote kans dat hij later op de avond de karaoke-microfoon naar zich toe trekt... 🎉 by @thesmilinghat
