Yes,Fred can smell Gators scent.Snapping Turtles actually have a great sense of smell.Their nasal cavities are split into two chambers. The lower chamber detects waterborne scents while the upper chamber is specifically designed to detect airborne smells. This aids in prey detection and navigating murky waters#hybridsnappingturtle #snappingturtle #chelydridae #turtlesofinstagram #reptile taken in The Swamp by @thesnapperkeeper

This is what a comfortable and confident baby Snapping Turtle looks like. You can see the intelligence in his eyes.Nibbler already knows who I am and knows that he doesn’t need to be fearful of me.Most baby turtles of any species are extremely timid. They’ll tuck everything that they can in and wait for a way to escape.I knew Nibbler was special when I first saw him.He learned to trust me pretty quickly. The trick is building upon the trust with repeated positive interactions. We’re still in the early stages but Nibbler is doing incredibly well#floridasnappingturtle #snappingturtle #cute #turtlesofinstagram #reptile taken in The Swamp by @thesnapperkeeper
