Hey Columbia! Have you been to Black Dog Pizza yet? If not, grab your friends and add it to your weekend plans ASAP.

We had an incredible meal and some of the friendliest service around. To start, we ordered a Hugo Spritz and a Limoncello cocktail, paired with the whipped ricotta appetizer- which was the perfect way to kick off the evening.

For our mains, we went with the lamb pizza and the chicken parmesan sandwich on focaccia. And let me tell you... the lamb pizza may be one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had. The flavors were unreal, and if you’re a ranch-on-pizza person, you’ll be happy to know they make their ranch in-house. The chicken parm sandwich was just as impressive, with crispy chicken, rich sauce, and fresh focaccia that tied it all together.

Safe to say we’ll be back!

Hey Columbia! Hope y’all are ready for another episode of Sip or Skip! ☕✨
Today we stopped by Cafe de Thyme, and honestly, this might’ve been the most aesthetic food and drink spread I’ve ever laid eyes on. We ordered two mango sticky rice matchas, paired with a slice of mango sticky rice cake and a cream puff — and everything looked almost too pretty to eat. 🍵🥭🍰

I’ve had sooooo many matchas from @niblcola but somehow I had always managed to not get the Ube Matcha (usually because I was getting something seasonal - like the mango sticky rice matcha, yummm). ANYWAYS - I finally tried the Ube Matcha and I’m OBSESSED. It’s safe to say this will definitely be in my new drink rotation for awhile. taken in Columbia, South Carolina by @thesodascene

A little CO date night 🍣🥢

I recently got to stop by CO at Trenholm Plaza, and it brought me right back to college! I had a CO nearby back then and absolutely loved it, so I’m not sure how it took me this long to make it back to this location since moving back to Columbia.

We started with drinks and bao, then I went for the Pad Thai while Tristan grabbed some sushi and everything hit the spot. CO has always been one of those places I know I can count on for a good meal, great drinks, and a fun atmosphere.

And if you need another reason to go: their specials are GOOD. Happy hour runs Monday–Friday from 4–7 PM with $1 dumplings (mon & wed), 1/2 off sake carafes, $5 select draft beer & wine, and $10 select specialty cocktails. Plus, sushi is half off on Tuesdays & Thursdays 👀🍸🍣

Safe to say, I’m very glad CO is back in my rotation!

There was no better way to celebrate surviving our first week at our new jobs than with an incredible dinner at City Grit. 🥂

I can’t believe it took me this long to try their dinner menu because now I completely understand the hype.

First, the service was exceptional. Huge shoutout to our server, Kelso, who didn’t steer us wrong on a single recommendation, and to Hunter for making us feel so welcomed from the moment we walked in. If you’re looking for some of the best service in Columbia, this is the place.

Now let’s talk about the food...
✨ Half Order Gnudi - THE star of the night. We ordered it as an appetizer, and after one bite I swear we entered another galaxy. Rich, pillowy, and absolutely unforgettable. I’d come back just for this.

Half Order White Bolognese - Their most popular pasta for a reason. Every bite was packed with flavor and pure comfort.

Half Order Corn Pasta - One of their newer dishes, and it definitely deserves a spot on the menu. Very unique and so well done.

LaBelle Farm Moulard Duck Breast - I’ve never been a duck person because it’s usually too gamey for me, but this completely changed my mind. Perfectly cooked, incredibly tender, and easily the best duck I’ve ever had.

The biggest surprise? City Grit officially claimed the #1 spot as my boyfriend’s favorite restaurant in Columbia. That’s a pretty big title.

Safe to say we’ll be back - probably sooner than we should. If City Grit has been sitting on your “I’ll try it someday” list like it was on mine, let this be your sign.

Some traditions never change. ❤️

Growing up, my family celebrated just about every major life milestone at San Jose on Hard Scrabble. Birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, new jobs - you name it, we’ve celebrated it here. It’s always the first restaurant we recommend to anyone visiting Columbia.

What makes this place so special isn’t just the food - it’s the people. San Jose is family owned and operated, and chances are you’ll be greeted by a member of the family when you walk in. Whether they’re your server, behind the bar, or at the register, they’ve been part of our celebrations for years. They’ve watched me grow up, and somehow every visit still feels like coming home.

So after my last day at work yesterday, and with both Tristan and I starting new jobs this week, there was only one place that felt right to celebrate.

If you go, my mom and I will always recommend the fajitas. You have to start with the chunky guacamole and queso, and if you’re extra hungry, the Tony’s Torta is bigger than your head. And of course... don’t skip the margaritas. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu.

If you’re in Columbia and haven’t been yet, do yourself a favor and stop by San Jose at 4525 Hard Scrabble Road. It’s been part of my family’s story for years, and I hope it’ll become part of yours too. 🌮🥑🍹
