my short restaurant list to go with my main restaurant list: places I’m dying to try

🇧🇧 Kabawa (East Village) — Momofuku’s most personal project yet, rooted in chef Paul Carmichael’s Barbadian heritage. Multiple people (including a chef) have said it’s the best meal they’ve had in NYC this year. @kabawa

🥩 Graciela (West Village) — the NY outpost of Don Julio, Buenos Aires’ most legendary restaurant. NY strip milanesa and the empanada s are apparently can’t miss items. @graciela.nyc

🔥 Or’Esh (Soho) — Michelin-starred chef, coal-fired everything, Mediterranean flavors. Currently the hardest res in the city. @or.esh

🍜 Ha’s Snack Bar (LES) — 24 seats, chalkboard menu, changes nightly. Vietnamese-French. Made Bon Appétit’s Best New Restaurants list. Resy notifs are ON 24/7.

🍝 I Cavallini (Williamsburg) — The Four Horsemen’s follow-up, a decade in the making. Italian, but make it unconventional. @icavallinibk

Honorable mention: TASCHA, Nolita’s tiny Portuguese hot spot. @tashca.nyc

Costa Brava has now entered my top five 🩵

About the area: There’s a real blend of Spanish and French culture there (Catalan), in the language, the people, the food, that you don’t get elsewhere in Spain. You’ll need a car to get around, but it’s easily accessible from Barcelona, only about an hour and a half away.

The history is everywhere around you. Iberians and Greeks built one of Spain’s oldest trading colonies there, then Romans took over. The ruins show both layered on top of each other.

The Camí de Ronda is a coastal trail that runs from town to town through stone tunnels cut into the cliffs. Probably the best walk I’ve done. Hoping it doesn’t get overrun with tourism, but the parking situation alone might keep that from happening.
