Ambition, with room to live soft.
A weekly newsletter for women
on business, identity, money &
becoming. + Hello February, the blog ↓

POSTS STORIES REELS

At some point, I started wondering why “having it all” seemed to leave so little time to enjoy any of it.

I wanted the business to do well. I also wanted to be interesting at dinner for reasons unrelated to work.

Surely a woman could have a vision without every conversation, weekend, and perfectly good outfit becoming an opportunity to promote it.

That question is part of what led me to create The Soft Edit.

A newsletter about women, brands, and business. The fascinating decisions. The reinventions nobody saw coming. What happens when the plan works, and what a woman does when it doesn’t.

For women founders and those becoming, with plenty to think about beyond the next thing on the to-do list.

Consider this your invitation to read along.

I have plans for my life. Enjoying it is one of them.

Meet The Soft Eight. Eight principles for the woman who wants to be fully herself, trust her own judgment, honor her desires, and take her pleasure as seriously as her ambitions.

We brought these eight together because they reflect what matters to us at Hello February and The Soft Edit. Having a vision. Bringing your own taste. Standing behind your choices. Letting yourself be supported. Making an occasion of the life you’re creating.

If you see yourself here, you’re one of us.

The Soft Edit is our newsletter for women founders and those becoming. For the woman building a business, considering her next move, and wanting something thoughtful to read along the way.

Inside, we explore women, brands, and business. The decisions behind what gets built, the plot twists along the way, and the woman whose life is happening through all of it.

Subscribe to The Soft Edit through the link in our bio.

Say hello 👋🏾 in the comments. Which of the eight feels most like you today, or the woman you envision becoming?

If this is your first time hearing about it, consider this my personal invite to you.

This article got me out of bed and into my business.

Donna Dia started The Beauty Beat with 500 women. Today, Our Beauty Club is approaching 25,000 members.
Somewhere between those two numbers is a woman who learned how to pay very close attention.

She knows what the women in her community earn, where they shop, and how they spend their beauty budgets.
She also knew they would appreciate an edge bar.
Every detail says: We heard you. And, girl, we made this just for you.

I read that and looked at The Soft Edit with new eyes.
Who’s reading? What keeps her here? What makes her pause, laugh, think—or immediately text the link to a friend with, “Girl. Read this.”

Twenty-five thousand women is impressive.
Making each one feel like you expected her?
That’s the part I keep thinking about.

The Soft Edit | In Perspective. by @thesofteditorial

The slowest launch ever.

Apparently, I took “soft launch” very seriously. 🎀

The Soft Edit was born on February 26, 2026—my birthday. And here we are, still rolling out. A woman does like to make an entrance, but even I hadn’t planned on one this long.

And yet, you’re here.

Following, subscribing, reading what’s already on the website, and sharing it with other women. We’re still growing, and the newsletter hasn’t even officially launched.

That part gets me.

There are already women making room for something I’m still bringing to life. I couldn’t be more grateful.

Thank you for being part of the beginning—even if the beginning is taking her time.

There’s a reason “How’s the business?” can turn into a very long lunch.

Ask a woman about something she’s made her own and watch what happens. She’ll have stories. Strong opinions. A detail she insists on showing you, which requires finding her phone.

It’s a lovely thing, to be that interested in your own work. To care how it turns out because there’s so much of you in it. To realize, halfway through explaining it to someone, how much affection has made its way into the answer.

What made you fall in love with your business? by @thesofteditorial

And if you’ve ever looked polished on the outside while privately juggling three ambitions, two doubts, and a whole history of starting over, you’re already one of us.

This space is a love letter to the woman who builds quietly, feels deeply, and refuses to lose herself in the process.

We said we had it together, we didn’t say we had it in the bag.

Needed a little retail therapy to regulate my nervous system, so of course I hit Barnes & Noble.

There I was, in the middle of the magazine aisle, feeling personally invested in the success of women I’ve never met.

Black women, everywhere I turned. On the covers, on the shelves. And me, standing there proud like I knew everybody personally.

I love to see it!

Seeing us win does something to me. I wanted to rush home and get back to The Soft Edit, but I had to remind myself: I was there for my peace, to get a new book, and to enjoy some quiet time to read.

So I did just that.

But now I’m curious: what are you girlies reading? A book, a magazine, a newsletter?

Tell me what’s good. I’m so nosy about what’s on your nightstand. 🤎 by @thesofteditorial

Nothing major here. Just an ADHD girly with some good ideas, manifesting a G-Wagon and a few delusional friends. Focusing on money management while quietly building my little empire.

You know… the usual. 😂

Three things I’ll always be:
→ Me
→ Blessed
→ About my business. 🥂

Two things I’ve learned along the way:
→ Change the plan, never the goal.
→ Never think with your own pockets.

One thing I know for sure:
Supporting women living the lives they want and being wildly successful while doing it will always be personal to me. 🩷

Somewhere between £215 million in global revenue and the announcement of two more American stores, I realized my imagination may have been operating on a budget.

Clare Hornby founded ME+EM after investing her savings and remortgaging her home.

She began with pajamas. She changed direction. And while much of the retail news has been about stores closing, her British womenswear company has continued opening them.

It would have been easy to make another company’s failure mean something about her future.

Another store closed. Another well-known retailer couldn’t make it work. Maybe this isn’t the time. Maybe the market is trying to tell me something.

But someone else closing a store does not automatically mean you shouldn’t open one.

What stayed with me was Hornby’s almost obsessive interest in understanding what women actually want to wear.

Sometimes the most profitable idea is sitting inside the simplest question while everyone else is busy making the answer unnecessarily complicated.

That made me think about The Soft Edit.

I don’t need to become obsessed with creating more content simply to have more to post. I want to become obsessed with understanding the women reading it.

What catches her attention? What stays with her after she closes the article? What feels worth saving—or sending to another woman with a “Girl, read this”?

And yes, the numbers did something to me too.

£215 million globally. £84 million from the United States.

Those kinds of numbers can happen for me.

Clare Hornby’s story made me want to make my own thinking bigger and my attention much more specific.

Think big, b*tch.

Then pay very close attention to her.
