SOLA Network exists to shape a gospel future for emerging generations of Asian Americans and beyond.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Parents, this short article won’t answer every question you have about whether you should or should not participate in what Smith and Uszynski say is the “Youth Sports Industrial Complex” (YSIC) in their co-authored book, Away Game. Or whether you should allow your kids to participate, especially if it takes them away from worship services on Sunday mornings or away from their studies to become doctors and lawyers. Or whether we should participate because of its large financial commitment.

Certainly, there are better places to spend our money. Instead, my hope in writing this article is to help us navigate the complexities of youth sports and see our kids’ involvement as an opportunity to raise faithful followers of Jesus!

We are grateful for the churches that partner with SOLA Network to shape a gospel future for the emerging generation of Asian Americans and beyond.

Christ Central Presbyterian Church (www.christcentralpc.org), led by Owen Lee, has been a faithful partner in providing financial and leadership support for many years. Their mission is “to glorify God by making disciples who love Christ, His church, and His mission.” In Northern Virginia, they are faithfully serving a region filled with families, professionals, and students who need the hope of the gospel.

Please join us in praying for Christ Central Presbyterian Church as they make disciples and serve Northern Virginia.

Aaron Lee: “I interviewed Jon Szeto, my former young adult pastor at FCBC Walnut, who received the unexpected diagnosis of terminal cancer and will soon be with the Lord. He is 45 years old and currently serves as the senior pastor at Laguna Chinese Baptist Church. I hoped to learn from his experience, and I was encouraged by his faith, hope, and love.”

They also discuss how stress and anxiety on parents can be both good and bad, and what parents can do about their own stress and anxiety that is caused by what they see in their teenagers’ lives.

Last year, I moved across the world for one person – my 85 year old grandma.

Packing my bags and my husband, I boarded a one way flight from New York City to Taiwan, with the plan to stay long-term.

This was not an impulsive decision, but rather a decade old conviction. Back in 2016, God put a burden on my heart to one day move to Taiwan and evangelize to my grandma, sharing with her the hope of the Gospel. And finally, in 2025, God gave the “green light” that it was finally time to go.

We didn’t receive any supernatural sign or prophetic dream; instead, we received the green light from what we saw and observed and after ten years of praying and waiting in anticipation, I couldn’t wait for her to finally hear and accept the good news of the Gospel!

Introducing the SOLA Sports Series!

Every Monday for the next five weeks, we look forward to presenting the benefits of sports and its relationship to our own families, the local church, and the greater Asian American Christian community.

For this season, our hope for this series is that it administers equally humble doses of perspective and wisdom when it comes to your participation in sports. We hope you will be able to stand on our shoulders and continue this conversation on your own, within your families and churches, and hopefully, begin to shift the conversation from a mindset of scarcity to the good news of grace abundant.

One of the greatest dangers for pastors is isolation. Left unchecked, it can lead not only to burnout but to collapse. At SOLA, we long to come alongside ministry leaders by creating a place for you to truly belong. Healthy pastors lead to healthy churches, and healthy churches cultivate a gospel culture.

The Ministry Leader Cohort is designed to give lead pastors a space where they can belong to a community of peers. Through assessments, mentoring, and resources—but most importantly, through genuine relationships—this cohort provides a place for encouragement and support. The groups are collaborative in nature, depending on one another to walk together through both formal and informal time.

Ready to Preach by Matthew D. Kim is a gold standard text that has challenged me to approach preaching with greater intentionality.

It has renewed my desire to preach the Word faithfully, to recognize the presence and activity of the Triune God in every passage, and to seek the transformational point that will help listeners become more like Christ.

New contributor David M. Choi wrote a two-part series on Campus, Church, and the Distance Between Them: Part I – Why the Distance and Part II – Why Church Matters.

In Ready to Preach, Matthew D. Kim restores the centrality of the Bible to its rightful place in the pulpit. Compact yet comprehensive, it emphasizes theology and a Trinitarian approach to homiletics. Read my review and enter our giveaway.
