The end of an era…🌈💙
After six years it’s time to close the chapter of @jakeandtuck and change our Instagram name. Having the boys together will always be the most precious memories I hold. All the things I called them over the years- Jake and Tucker, Jake and Tuck, big brother little brother, Salty and Spicy, BFFs, my twins, my little loves, my J + T. It was the greatest chapter of my life. This is not moving on from Jake, it’s quite the opposite. It’s holding onto the boys together forever in a way that’s sacred and beautiful to me.

I also want to take a moment to say a great big thank you to the brands we worked with over the years as @jakeandtuck, especially @thefoggydog, @sassywoof, @the_brindle_pup, @pineapplepawprints, and all the friends who supported our modeling or shopped with us! It was an absolute pleasure to support you all and such an honor to have each of you help us show off the brotherly relationship the boys had and how beautiful senior dogs are.

And now we turn the page on a new beginning…
THE SOUL DOGS. It’s our new page name to reflect who we are now. It honors the soul bond Jake and I will always share as well as Jake and Tucker together who were each other’s soul dogs. Our photography and blog will continue in a way that connects us to our Jake in Heaven, reflects on our cherished past, and holds space for the future with our little Tucker who lights up our world.

Jake 1.14.12-8.17.26 🖤🌈🕊️
On Monday evening we sent my soulmate off to Heaven. Jake’s health declined out of nowhere and in less than 72 hours his body was shutting down. Starting Saturday he began to taper off his eating, drinking, and was sleeping constantly. He was comfortable though. By Monday we knew something changed and we spent the day at his specialty hospital. His tests revealed he was struggling and was at high risk of passing. At that point he was now in pain. Rather than letting him stay and suffer without us we made the decision to let him go with the grace and dignity he’s always shown. He very clearly let us know he had no more fight left in him and his body needed rest. We got to spend time with him and hold him and tell him he did such a great job in life. It was as peaceful as it could be. In a weird way he was already gone as he curled up on my lap and went to sleep even before we did it. He was trying to go and we let him. I had the privilege of holding him as he gently took his last breaths. We smiled a little as we said he wanted to leave this world while his hair was still perfect. I know Jake is now waiting for me as a beautiful little star in the sky. We have hearts that are irrevocably broken, but I love him way too much to have forced him into a pain greater than mine. Please don’t be sad for us. Jake lived a brave life of over 14 1/2 years far beyond the time he should have had. He was my miracle. If Heaven is the place I hope it to be I will meet him again with his golden hair on those golden streets. Until we meet again my love. I am forever yours.✨

Summer ‘26 you will always have my heart.🌈🩷
While it wasn’t the summer we expected, there has been a mighty village of friends that kept me going these last five weeks. I truly love this community. You held our paws during the hardest season of our lives. To everyone that did anything- reached out with a kind message, sent a thoughtful gesture, took time to remember Jake on his post, thought of Tucker, I cannot express my gratitude enough. But I am so grateful for each one of you. Knowing our beautiful boy has been remembered filled our broken hearts and continues to do so. As Jake taught us so well, we’ll take a wobbly step into fall with one ear held high knowing there’s never an excuse for bad hair. As hard as it is to say this year… Summer ‘26 thanks for the final memories. We were so blessed to have them.✨

One month without you.💔
This post below talks about grief and loss. It may not be right for all of you friends. I want to give a warning because our page has always been a happy place. And it will be. But it’s also true and reflects our real lives. Thank you for stopping by today to remember our beautiful boy on the one month anniversary of his passing and finding us here at new journey and name @thesouldogs.✨

One month later…
Every day I carry a tremendous weight of pain, but I try to remind myself I do it so Jake doesn’t have to. My body physically hurts and sometimes my voice can only manage a whisper. While Jake’s passing was shocking and sudden, we had known his body grew tired over this past year. I’m quite certain now he was hiding things from us along the way because he was so brave and strong. And stubborn too. In the most perfect way possible. His many (so many!) checkups this year were all perfect. He was as healthy as he could possibly be, but somehow we knew deep down to cherish every moment with him. I trust that God knew in His perfect way that Jake needed to pass quickly and peacefully so that somehow I would make it through.

This last month has changed me. A part of me died with Jake on August 17th and I’m okay with that. I’m no longer his caregiver. A senior mom. A mom of these little twins. All the things I loved most. I’m a grieving mom. I would invite anyone that says we are not real parents to feel this pain. I pray daily that Jesus will heal my broken heart, but I’ve realized I’m not quite ready to hand Him my grief just yet. I want Jake to remain as close to me as possible and my grief is where we meet on this side of eternity. While the pain affects every aspect of my life right now I thank God I got to know this kind of love even if it breaks me. Jake was one of a kind, and how lucky am I that for 5,163 days I was his.
