Knowledge followed by action results to sustainable and transformative change. Building communities that understand the importance of this is vital in the journey to sustainable growth. This was the essence on the partnership between the hosts @jemajkuat, @s_emezana and @thespacnetwork.

Mazingira Day was a day we understood on big thing, our generation is the one to solve a crisis that we did not create. We understood that our ingenuity, vocal nature and creativity is what will bridge the gap between discussions and implementations. These are the realities that we saw and talked about. That students are key stakeholders in shaping narratives and turning advocacy to real time action. These are the realities that we saw and that made these discussions personal and real.

We continue to remind ourselves that advocacy is not only about speeches but making choices. The choices are about refusing to litter, conserving water, caring for the trees planted and influencing people around. We need the energy to act, creativity to imagine better solutions and communities that can listen and support us. We are happy to be part of this and more initiatives to come. This was our mazingira day and we are looking forward to see how the deliberations will turn out. by @thespacnetwork

When we plant trees, we plant the seeds of peace and seeds of hope ~ Wangari Maathai.

During Mazingira Day, we convened at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) for something that would leave an imprint to the planet. Every hole that was dug and every tree planted was a story that is to be lived. Each tree with a single story, but the journey was just beginning with the planting. The real impact comes from watching the trees grow.

Each time we plant trees, one thing we need to remember is that it has life. It needs protection from livestock, trampling, weeds and dry seasons. Without enough care, their survival is limited and the efforts are wasted. And that is why we move from just planting to growing. Growing seeds that we might not taste the benefits but get to have generations coming to enjoy them.

Who are the better agents to be part of such transformative nature based solutions than students. That is why we encourage ourselves not just to be planters but growers. So, the challenge still remains, will our trees grow and survive? We have taken up the challenges and responsibility. Grow the trees with us.

We appreciate the JKUAT Environmental Management Association (@jemajkuat) for the existing partnership and working relations.

Faces of hope and resilience.

We appreciate all the beautiful and handsome faces that showed up for the Music4Impact Experience. Your presence, ideas and commitments are the seeds and what we do over the coming months is what counts. We would like to walk the journey together to know how you plan to carry it forward.

As we said, this is the first of many and if you missed this one, trust us we have another one coming. All you have to do is follow us through and walk the journey with us. This matter because the energy and work did not end when the final curtains were drawn. It is a journey that has just started. We are building a community and most definitely you are part of it.

Some artists perform for the crowd, others perform for a cause. Jesse David does both.

Six years, he has been preparing for something bigger. For six years he has been using his vocals, saxophone and guitar to inspire, impact and advocate for sustainability.

As the vision bearer of Music4Impact Experience, Jesse David ensured everyone in the room could feel the presence and the weight of the words he sung. He ensured everyone could feel the sound of the saxophone and each string of the guitar. This is what made his set the highlight and closing for the Music4Impact Experience.

After a day of engagement, sorrow, hope and learning, he took the stage and carried the room though three movements: wellness, action and sustainability. His songs brought reflections of mind and healing, call for young people to organize, act and speak for the world we are building. Jesse, throughout his performance was able to hold both the heaviness and the hope. He showed that music can turn care into something a whole room can feel together.

Together, as a network and with the @music_4impact team, we will keep building spaces where music, art and climate action meet. Do you have a song that resonated with you? Because a melody can be a movement. by @thespacnetwork

Every moment, every action has a root. Ours looked back to Professor Wangari Maathai. 'It is the little things that citizens do. That's what will make the difference.' she often added 'My little thing is planting trees.

Partners, friends and organizations working tirelessly to protect the environment and provide locally-led solutions to communities got a chance to share their experiences and efforts. The efforts reflected on the legacy that Wangari Maathai instilled in them and the courage to speak even when it was uncomfortable. Her story reminded us that often mentorship and advocacy is a sustainability tool.

@earthnowmedia shared on their project 'Faces of Adaptation' showcasing resilient projects from grassroot communities. @ujamii_conservation Initiative come through to showcase the work with farmers in Nyeri County on Agroecology. The Founder @youngenvirornme shared on why it is important to work with children on climate education and the efforts being made.
The @africawaterambassadors team also shared on the water stress facing our country and how the youth can be at the center of advocacy and contribute to water resilience. Bringing the community at the center through educating, equipping and sustaining, @saabikogroupoffriends highlighted why empowerment if communities is key to climate action.

For us at The SPAC Network, it was important to share the importance of science and policy in all these efforts and how communities can understand and implement sustainable initiatives. What was clear is that, young people refuse to stay quiet, and keep on championing for the planet.

Climate advocacy took an artistic route during the Music4Impact Experience. Each artist coming on stage with a unique style of delivery and engaging the participants of the day.

In between the storytelling and the chapters, the artists took the stage with songs and spoken word narrations on water, food security, war, displacement and hope. Each performance with its own theme, but all geared towards the same thing: Sustainability.

What stood out was how each artist was a witness of the crisis. Each came with a perspective of the challenge as well as the solution. They did not lecture. They shared the realities as they were, turning real life experience into something the audience could carry out of the moment.

This was a great moment to appreciate the role of artists in bridging the complex realities, giving climate action a human face that is relatable. They capture what reports cannot. A song and spoken word on water and droughts is not just a song, but a record of a place, loss and hope.

We are working towards with artists in the sustainability field and we would like to hear from you. Mention the sustainability artists you know and let's take the advocacy a notch higher. by @thespacnetwork

In the journey of climate action, not every storm falls from the sky. Some live within the minds and the heads of our communities.

Throughout the day, our mental health corner held a quiet space to sit. Our wellness lead, Melanie stood out with her message on tackling climate anxiety and staying resilient amidst the growing challenges. Through the corner, Melanie took the participants through knowing themselves, how they feel and their general emotions during the day. No one had to explain, no one had to be strong.

All this is important and matters because the effects of climate reach the mind as well as the environment. As people watch the crops fail, houses carried away, families uncertain of the next crisis and so young people carrying the burden worry living with a weight that rarely has a name. Healing the planet begins with healing ourselves snd mental wellbeing is part of climate resilience.

If you carried something heavy in the room, we hope you left a little lighter. And if you need a little bit of wellness support, reach out to us and through our Wellness Lead and Psychologist will be right in for you.

Climate science has told us, predictions have also shown us. Climate change has no shortage of data, what often lacks is a way forward people to feel what the data means.

This was the whole essence of Music 4 Impact Experience. Highlighted and showcased by an Energy Engineer and Sustainability Artist, Jesse David, the hall understood how art and sustainability intersect. Instead of normal graphs and presentations, the session opened with the sound of a guitar and the voice of an artist. This clearly confirmed that climate communication has no boundary and we need to have multiple ways of translating it for people to understand.

We have always believed as an organization, that climate action needs to move people first, then the actions. Numbers inform but stories and music tend to reach the heart and action usually feels the heart. These are some of the most powerful delivery systems.
