This book was a bit of a slow burn for me which gave ample time to work out the plot twists… well, most of it them anyway. I know a lot of people love this one but for me, there really wasn’t any jaw dropping moments.

Kit is assigned to Hopes End, a prestigious home which should have been condemned years ago located atop an eroding cliff. Her patient? Lenora Hope. A woman accused of murdering her family in that very home.

Curious about the story of this woman’s past, Kit finds a way to communicate with Lenora to seek out the truth. Having been wrongly accused of a horrible act herself, Kit knows there are two sides to every story. Another person is killed as the truth begins to surface leaving her wondering if she’s putting her own life at risk.

I found the story disjointed at times and the ending unrealistic given all that had taken place.

Hey, it’s a book… of sorts. 🤷‍♀️ I bought myself an early Christmas prezzy. I feel that over the years I have lost my creativity. I know it’s a muscle that needs to be worked just like any other so I’m looking for some inspiration. by @thestillnessintime

Some really great reads this month. I finally got around to reading The Handmaid’s Tale. I thought it had been long enough since I’d watched the series but alas, I kept picturing the actors. National by Christopher Lai was a really interesting read and introduced me to a world I know little about. And a classic George Orwell thrown in for good measure. by @thestillnessintime

Wow, what great read! I would like to thank the author, Heather Thomas and her publisher, Wintertickle Press for providing me with an eARC for review consideration.

The following is my personal perspective on the book.

Jorie, a renowned psychologist, investigates a rather unusual case; the first domestic homicide since the patriarchy ended and men became extinct. Her investigation tests her beliefs and threatens everything she has known to be true up to this point.

Scorpion Grass grabbed me from page one. It’s not only a fascinating concept but beautifully written, uniquely descriptive and rich with symbolism and metaphors.

I think this might be my favourite book of the year. From what I understand, Scorpion Grass is the first book in The Shift series. I cannot wait until the next book!

I seem to be on a Freida McFadden kick lately and of the eight books of hers I’ve read this year, this is one of the more enjoyable ones.

Newlyweds Ethan and Tricia are on their way to meet their real estate agent to view a potential home. They get more than they bargain for when a winter storm hits causing their agent to miss the appointment and leaving them stranded at the home. Alone.

Dr. Adrienne Hale, a renowned psychotherapist, resided in a lavish home until her disappearance a few years ago but there are signs the home has had a recent occupant.

I enjoyed the backstory in this book and as always, McFadden’s character development is on point. I had many scenarios playing out in my mind throughout. I did feel that there was a long lead-up to the truth but the story seemed to wrap up quite quickly after that.
