Vladimir. Live.

This one has always meant something to the people who know it. Here it is, in a room, which used to be an art collective and is now an artists’ studio, with live overhead projections by @mgodoynieto . Things are always changing and I embrace the present, but it is also good to look back.

The Tablets had an LP, and an EP before we released a series of double sided flexi-disc singles in 2017. This is us trying to play the first single -Not a Sign- for the first time in its entirety at our New York practice space which we shared with a bigger band. That’s not all our equipment in there!
I just came across this video, and realized I like it. It’s messy and I love it.
I have been so critical of myself for so long, still am, but much less now. It’s something that grew out of becoming completely insecure and self-conscious during some very formative times, to the point of it becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy. It took about a decade for me to feel confident enough to write and sing the entirety of my music, without feeling like all I could do was come up with some keyboard parts and backing vocals, which can be great as a role, but perhaps not when it comes from a place of crippling insecurity, because that stuff stretches far beyond the music part. I had to rebuild my psyche, body and life at a super slow pace because it was the only way.
I don’t know that I can share more yet. But when the very important people in your life do fucked up shit during very key moments, it is possible to come out on the other side of the damage, it’s just so much work.
I’m sharing this video and this bit of backstory because as I recently mentioned, it can be a disservice (or a survival mechanism) to forget everything that had to happen to get to where you are, just because you’re already there so now you’re focused on what’s missing. And the fact that I was doing this in 2017 is honestly a miracle personally. by @thetablets

I forget what it took to get where I am because I am there. Sometimes that’s self-preservation. Sometimes it’s a disservice.
Just kids playing loud experimental noise at Centro Cultural de la Raza in San Diego. The first time what I was doing was welcomed and encouraged by this world we made. This was the best it had ever gotten for me at the time. But it was just a start, I still had a long way to go, and I’m still going by @thetablets

Dear friends,
Here are three songs that have been waiting years to find you in this Fall Triptych.

Fall I: Soft Focus and Fall II: A Shiver were written and recorded in Brooklyn, New York between 2013 and 2017.

Part III: Helen & Henry was written and recorded in 2020 while in Paris. It was commissioned by French filmmaker Michel Zumpf for the end credits of his arthouse film Oeil Oignon. The lyrics are fragments of poems by Percy Bysshe Shelley, Mary Shelley’s husband, that were provided by the director from photocopies of a rare copy of an edition titled Letters to Shelley.

We decided to not work too much at making these tracks perfect in terms of studio quality. We liked the raw feel and the imperfections of both the instrumentation and the vocals, over the years we felt these tracks gravitated towards an Autumnal release, so here they are.

“We don’t have a Nirvana cover” -The Tablets 2011. We did however have an Echo and the Bunnymen cover ready and you all loved it 🖤
@katekornberg got the audience very excited by a Nirvana cover prospect only to have me quickly disappoint everyone. Like I said, I would have loved to have a nirvana cover lol. by @thetablets

Some Halloween wins and losses.
We couldn’t play @farfelu.paris since mandatory confinement officially started in Paris on Friday. So we tried to do a very last minute at-home live stream. We were not set up for it, it was our first time. We had a few technical and sound difficulties and will probably be able to salvage just a few things to share with you tomorrow. But it’s okay, the whole world is adjusting at an insane pace and keeps trying. Bear with us, it’s also our first performance in over two years, with little to no practice. We will be better prepared for more live streaming soon. We also have side projects for which it felt more conducive to work on for a while. We hope you’ll listen to those too as we will share them in the coming days and months. The Tablets exist and will continue writing, but we’re in no rush to prove anything other than we can’t quit. The corner of my childhood universe.
Tijuana Mexico/San Diego U.S.
The ocean and two countries begin and end here, separated by a metal wall. I saw a squirrel grabbing food on the Tijuana side, and run with it through the fence to the San Diego side. I don’t even know what the metaphor is. taken in Playas De Tijuana by @thetablets
