WoooHooooo! Block 12 of America Blooms is complete. Such a fun quilt for me to learn the needle turn appliqué technique. Lots of room for improvement, but I’m really enjoying the process. The America Blooms Quilt pattern was created by @thevintagespool. I really appreciate all the details in Verna’s pattern. Yessiree! America Blooms Block Number 11 is complete. Little secret…This is the first block I tried from the pattern by @thevintagespool. I originally appliquéd it on long toweling to use as a table runner. Until this one, I’d never made a table runner. They’re not my cup of tea, but I wanted to practice making the block a few times before starting the quilt. Since I was very inexperienced with needle turn appliqué, I thought the loose weave of toweling might be easy to stitch through. I even made this block one additional time, but did not like the background color I had used. So, voila! And it’s a wrap for Block Number 7 of my America Blooms Quilt! This wonderful pattern is by @thevintagespool. Each block takes me less than two days to finish. I still consider myself a confident beginner as I use the needle turn appliqué method. I’ve been trying different needles and have concluded the Jen Kingwell Milliner Needles Size 11 are my favorite for this type of appliqué. They glide through my fabric like butter. This block came together quickly. Block Number 6 of my America Blooms Quilt, pattern by @thevintagespool, is d-o-n-e, and I’m smiling! I used fabric with a little dog on a bicycle to represent The Peanut, our leeetle Chupacabra. Now, if I’d just quit losing my needles! (I think the sofa ate them.) Next round of my Yorkshire Coverlet is done! I absolutely love it. I can’t believe I waited 30 years in my quilting journey to try needle turn appliqué, it’s such a delight to do. But, it sort of makes sense. I’m in a slower stage of life now and making quilts for my own enjoyment. Spent the day with my fur babies and the longarm to finish quilting my Garden Harvest Quilt, designed by @quilters_candy.
