Wrapping up my first year as an educator, and what a journey it’s been.I started this year as a teacher assistant, “hallway monitor” if you ask the students 😂 but even then, I knew I was exactly where I was supposed to be, at the right place and the right time. Less than 2 months later, the opportunity to teach 7th & 8th grade math came about 😳 and I stepped into a challenge that would change me forever.Now 7 months later, we’ve overcome obstacles, learned lessons beyond the classroom, matured, grown, and most importantly, become stronger leaders together. The relationships, conversations, and impact made along the way have been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.Being these young men, “W Polk,” “Unc,” “My Son,” “Pops,” and even “Dad” around the building reminds me every day that this work is bigger than teaching equations and solving problems. It’s about showing up, believing in young men, and helping inspire the next generation of leaders. That impact, the one that extends far beyond the classroom is my why.Year 1 is complete… and I’m grateful for every lesson that came with it. Looking forward to what Year 2 has to bring 💙 by @thetjpolk
