I help you overcome jaw pain and poor sleep so you can live life to the fullest!

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Welcome to my page!

There have been many new faces following me since I last introduced myself.

My name is Victoria and I am a TMJ specialised Physical Therapist, certified Myofunctional Therapist and Sleep Coach, helping people overcome their jaw pain and sleep disorders for the last 20 years.

I am on a mission to help as many people as possible get the tools they need so they can be pain free and have the energy they need to love their best life.

As someone who has had a tight and clicking jaw most of my adult life and a history of periodic insomnia, I know first hand how having poor sleep increases tension and pain.

That's why I love helping others navigate and find LASTING solutions to their pain and fatigue. If you're in the Boston area, come for an asse and if you live too far I created my program "Revive", a 12 week online course to teach you how to recruit your muscles for a better sleep and not a 'quick fix".

Yes, you can strengthen and tone even the smallest muscles!

Are you ready to have less jaw tension and sleep better?

Then follow my page for regular content on these topics and book a Discovery Call through the link in the bio.

Wishing you the best, in health.

After years of hard work and perseverance, I am pleased to present my research article published in the Journal of Oral Rehabilitation.

It is an amazing professional milestone and one way I ensure I provide my patients with the best evidence based practice. 🩷

In a nutshell, the goal was to see if research could show a link between treatment to the neck area and any reduction in jaw pain?

Result: in the short term, certain neck treatments reduced jaw pain and sensitivity!

This is because there are shared neurophysiological and biomechanical mechanisms between them.

If you have neck pain there is up to a70% chance that you have TMD and vice versa.

If you have one, always make sure your health provider takes care of the other for optimal wellness and pain relief.

🍂 **Feeling more jaw tension as the temperatures drop?**

You’re not alone! As the weather gets colder, many of my patients notice increased jaw and neck tension. Cold temperatures can make us tense our muscles, shrug our shoulders, and clench without even realizing it.

💡 **My simple fall tip:** Keep a light scarf or headband in your pocket or bag. Keeping your neck and ears warm can help you feel more comfortable and may reduce that tendency to tense up.

Sometimes, the smallest changes can make a big difference! 🍁

Save this tip for the next chilly day, and share it with someone whose jaw needs a little extra TLC.

A little personal announcement from ReviveTMJ 🤍

After an exciting first year of building my practice in Boston, I’ll be taking some time away to welcome a couple of very special new additions to our family! 🍼

ReviveTMJ will be on maternity leave beginning October 16, 2026, and I’ll be taking some time to soak up this special season.

I’m incredibly grateful for the support of my patients, referral partners, and the Boston community over this past year. It has meant so much to me as I’ve built ReviveTMJ here in a new city.

For those who need support while I’m away, please visit the ReviveTMJ website (link in Bio) for information about trusted physical therapists who will be available to help with TMD/orofacial pain during my leave.

I look forward to being back in February 2027 and helping you with all your orofacial & TMD needs! 🤍

Thank you for your understanding and support during this exciting transition. I can’t wait to see you in the new year!

🎉 ReviveTMJ is officially ONE! 🎉

After nearly 20 years as a TMD/orofacial pain physical therapist in Montreal, starting over in a new city—and a new country—was both exciting and incredibly daunting.

Thankfully, the Boston community has welcomed me with such incredible support and openness. I’m so grateful to the patients, colleagues, and referral partners who have believed in my mission from the very beginning.

That mission is simple: to help people with TMD and orofacial pain better understand their symptoms, navigate their concerns, and self-sufficient strategies to manage their pain and improve their quality of life.

Thank you for trusting me with your care, your referrals, your questions, and your support throughout this first year. It means more than I can say. ❤️

Here’s to year two—and everything still to come!

🤰🏼 Pregnant + dealing with more jaw tension? Try these 3 simple techniques.

Pregnancy can affect your jaw in ways you might not expect.

Relaxin → more joint mobility
Nasal congestion → more mouth breathing
Poor sleep → less muscle recovery

So here are 3 things you can try 👇

✨ 1. Help open up your nasal breathing
A simple maneuver to encourage nasal airflow when congestion is making it harder to breathe through your nose.

✨ 2. Stabilize your jaw
A gentle exercise to support the TMJ and reduce the need for your muscles to constantly brace the joint.

✨ 3. Release your masseter
A quick self-release for one of the muscles that can become especially tense with clenching and jaw bracing.

Your body is changing a LOT during pregnancy—and your jaw can feel those changes too.

Save this for the next time your jaw feels tight, tired, or achy. 🤍

And if you're experiencing persistent jaw pain or headaches during pregnancy, don't assume you just have to push through it. A personalized assessment can help identify what's driving your symptoms and what may help.

Always check with your healthcare provider if you're unsure whether a technique is appropriate for you during pregnancy.

As a TMJ Specialized Physical Therapist, I want to help explain why there is more jaw tension during pregnancy. 🤰

Here are 3 key factors that may be contributing:

🤰 1. Relaxin hormone
Relaxin increases ligament laxity throughout the body—including around the jaw. This increased movement can cause the jaw muscles to brace more in an effort to stabilize the joint, leading to increased tension.

👃 2. Increased nasal congestion
Increased blood flow to the nasal passages during pregnancy can lead to chronic nasal congestion (pregnancy rhinitis). This reduces nasal breathing and often increases mouth breathing, especially during sleep, placing additional strain on the jaw muscles.

😴 3. Disrupted sleep
As pregnancy progresses, insomnia and less restorative sleep become more common. Poor-quality sleep limits muscle recovery, which can contribute to increased jaw tension and discomfort.

While these changes are common, persistent jaw pain, headaches, or TMJ symptoms don't have to be something you simply "put up with" during pregnancy.

Have you noticed changes in your jaw during pregnancy? I'd love to hear your experience in the comments! 💬

I'm honored to share that the article I worked so hard to publish in 2024 has been recognized among the top 10% most-viewed papers in the Journal of Oral Rehabilitation!

This is not a milestone I take lightly. Alongside my collaborators, Dr. François Proulx and Dr. Arsenio Paez, I had the privilege of contributing to research aimed at improving the clinical reasoning of healthcare providers working with individuals experiencing temporomandibular disorders.

It's rewarding to see this work reaching clinicians and researchers around the world, and I’m grateful for everyone who supported this project along the way.

Not all TMJ disorders are the same.

Sometimes they can come all of a sudden without you noticing.

This is the story of one of my patients.

She was never aware of jaw clicking but suddenly in her mid 30s started having episodes of jaw locking.

No pain, no headaches, just locking at random moments.

Dry needling of her masseter muscles with another PT did help but it wasn't enough to stop the locking. She also didn't know why it was happening.

We did a thorough assessment and found that her TMJ was hypermobile. Providing less stability between her disc and jaw bones.
But for years her jaw muscles were doing their best to help.

One day her TMJ wasn't getting the support it needed from her muscles anymore.

Leading to a lateral/medical disc displac with reduction with interm locking.

Our goal now is to engage all the muscles around her joint (not just her masseter) to support her jaw and prevent locking.

If you have a hypermobile jaw, there are solutions and preventative options.

One tool to knowing if you are hypermobile is if you can open your mouth wider than 3 of your fingers or you can move your teeth side to side >10mm.

Do you think your jaw is hypermobile?

Let me know in the comments below!
