DYK October is National Seafood Month? 🦐 Sounds like the perfect excuse to reel in a meal at @jeansbythesea. 🌊

Bringing fresh seafood and laid-back vibes to Old West Durham, Jean’s “By the Sea” breathed new life into the former home of Wimpy’s Grill. A larger-than-life flounder mural greets hungry diners, who can pick from a menu of East Coast favorites ranging from crispy Calabash baskets and daily catches to oysters, crudo and a seriously satisfying crispy cod sandwich. 🦀🍤

Owner Kate Elia saw potential in the modest brick building and worked with @alliancerchitecture, @sundholmstudio, Jergensen Construction and designer @paultuorto to transform the space while honoring its neighborhood history. Inside, vintage signs, fishing poles and coastal artwork set the scene, while the spacious backyard patio gives guests room to settle in under the pergola. ✨

For a weekend wind-down, head to Jean’s backyard bar The Barj, where Friday and Saturday evenings bring buckets of beer, frozen slushies and beachy cocktails like the Gin & Jorts and Sea Hag. 🍹

A new kind of tavern brings North Carolina oysters, Southern staples and art-lined rooms to East 54. 🦪 🖼️

Chef and partner @danjackson004 spent years at Michelin-starred Gramercy Tavern in New York City dreaming up one restaurant where diners could choose from many experiences. In June, after partnering with @giorgiosgroup and finally finding the right space, that idea became @geostavern.

The sprawling space unfolds like a museum: an oyster bar up front, a plant-filled salon with floor-to-ceiling windows to the left, a private area with a beach-house feel to the right and a greenhouse-like dining room wrapped in hand-painted murals in the back. The oysters come from @threelittlspats, the cheese from @boxcarrfarms and the flowers on the long tables from Dan's mother, Ronnie Jackson.

"The menu, to be honest, is like a diary of my cooking experience over the last 25 years," Dan says.

The wait is over! @fullsteambrewery's new @americantobaccocampus home opens tomorrow! 🎉🍻

@fullsteamatc fills a sprawling 9,000 square feet in the former boiler room of the historic Power Plant building, where brick exteriors, expansive windows and polished concrete floors surround preserved furnaces and antique heavy machinery. The public house serves as the main taproom 🍺, while the new Stoker Club private event space – which takes its name from the massive decommissioned coal stoker at its center – can host up to 120 guests. 🔥

Wander around the corner from the taproom, and you'll come across Lucky's Den, a more laid-back hang in a vintage-inspired, paneled lounge that features a foosball table, wall ephemera and fabric-covered stools from @nomadictradingco. 🕺 Keep going, and you'll find a tucked-away patio at the base of the iconic Lucky Strike smokestack ☀️ as well as the 100-seat Fullsteam film theater, which already hosts public screenings and events. 🎬

Hospitality Director @phoebe_lawless – the James Beard Award semifinalist behind @scratchkitchennc, Baby Scratch, The Lakewood and @snackservicedurham – leads the food program, which takes an "American South Public House" approach to its menu, serving tavern classics, Southern sides and plenty of vegan options. 🍔

🎨 Meet some of the Triangle’s magic makers ✨

🟢 Mixed-media artist @cmurasugi explores societal themes through unexpected pairings and visual puzzles, creating work that invites viewers to look – and think – twice.

🫟 Muralist @gabegets has traveled the world, yet always finds himself drawn back to his hometown of Durham. “Despite jumping around different materials, locations and messages, the commonality in my murals has always been community,” he says.

🖌️ Raleigh painter @lesliepruneaustudio has been putting brush to canvas for 40 years – and she’s nowhere near finished. Layer by layer, her work captures more than a sense of place; it captures how it feels to be there.

🎻 This year’s @hjfiddle was a boot-scootin’ good time, filled with plenty of pickin’, grinnin’ and a tasty Hoppin’ John cook-off! 🌶️ The annual three-day festival, now in its 19th year, is a favorite among musicians throughout the Triangle – featuring music classes, dancing workshops and competitions for all ages – and a great excuse to kick back and unwind at Pittsboro’s @shakorihills. 🪕🌳

Around these parts, we believe Tuesdays deserve a little more than takeout on the couch. 🤠🌮

We recently got a taste of @americantobaccocampus newcomer @eastoftexasdurham and discovered that Tuesdays come with a pretty sweet deal: The $𝟯𝟵 𝗧𝘄𝗼𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝘆 includes enough food and drinks for two – like they say, everything is bigger in Texas🇨🇱 – a perfect excuse to turn a regular ol’ weeknight into proper evening out. So round up your plus-one and wrangle up some grub:

🍹𝟮 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘀 – choose from the house blend, strawberry, grapefruit, lavender, ginger, blood orange or the frozen flavor of the day;
