Stolen from an idea on the Omved gardens feed. I’m hoping this ‘bug snug’ will help lots of creepy crawlies find a home on the allotment. The secret is to fill it as full as you can and then the twigs are anchored. by @thetvvicar

This new hugelette is outperforming even my expectations. In a really dry spring it needs hardly any watering for the polyculture on top to thrive. Bottom half is packed logs standing on end, top half allotment made compost and topsoil. by @thetvvicar

Volunteers from Bramford Open Spaces worked hard in the sun this morning to build a space for habitat on the meadow by the car park. There’s freshly cut and mature rotting stumps buried in the soil to provide homes mainly for the local stag beetles but other invertebrates will also make their way here. Also in the stumpery are two mason bee post-style hotels drilled with holes that will hopefully provide homes for all sorts of solitary bees. Please leave the logs alone, the stags need to be undisturbed for several years to complete their life cycle. by @thetvvicar
