Flying Vs Uranium Dumps.

This is the dose readings from the Radiacode app.

The first bar graph is from a two hour flight (NCL to PRG). The third is an afternoon spent hunting around the dumps of Pribram.

To the layman, a uranium mine dump sounds like a much more dangerous place than an Airbus A320. However, strip away a bit of the atmosphere and cosmic rays are far more effective.

This is only gamma radiation, so is more of an illustration than an exact measure. There's beta and alpha on the dump, and neutrons and muons from secondary particles in cosmic ray interactions. But you get the jist. by @theuraniumhunter

Spotting uranium minerals in a spooky forest would usually be enough, but flipping on the UV torch? Whole different level.

This velvety yellow formation is uranopilite - like a bumble bee!

Under UV, it explodes into an insanely bright lime green! 💚 And yes... I left it right where it was.

Why? Uranopilite is a total heartbreak mineral. It packs 12 water molecules into its crystal structure. The second you pull it from its damp native microenvironment into dry indoor air, it rapidly dehydrates, crumbling into a dull, powdery yellow dust in a display case.

Some finds are best captured with the camera, appreciated in the moment, and left for the mountain to keep.

Explored two shafts of the legendary Pribram mines in Czechia. The brilliant @radioactivehunter and @radzone05 were great company helping me navigate simply the most radioactive place on earth, outside of a reactor.

Never mind the readings, the sheer scale of the place is just too vast to describe. by @theuraniumhunter
