‘I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers’- L.M. Montgomery

Isn’t that the truth?! The leaves are bursting with color in the Midwest and it’s hard not to be inspired. I’ve been itching to try my hand at capturing some of this autumn magic in one of my tree weavings. So here she is!

Lots of back and forth and decision making in this tree, all while peeking out the window at the actual trees and seeing their leaves fly by. I think my favorite part of this one is the leaves falling to make a big ol’ jumping pile at the base 🥰 You’re never too old to jump into the leaves!

The big question is- should I make more fall trees??

Why are these my favorite? Because of their color combinations, the hidden patterns, the wobbly lines and super fluffy roving (like in ‘Rock Lobstah’!). Each one a quiet little moment, planned to be a little imperfect, organic, and a lot of cozy.

My other favorites already found their forever homes- thank you!! And these are still patiently waiting 🤍

Get a closer view of them, and a couple more, right here 👉🏼 www.theurbanartstudio.com

Wishing you a cozy October weekend!

Inspired by the little path to Blueberry Hill in Acadia. It has sand, rocks, dirt, trees and opens up to a little hill along a quiet bay on the coast. It’s so peaceful here.

Moss and sea plants are everywhere along the coast in Maine! I loved seeing the title pops of green against the grey toned rocks. That warm against the cool, it just looked like little blankets warming up the cold stones.

There are so many rocks that have this warm rust and iron color in them, I knew I had to incorporate it in this collection. And also, lobster is huge in Maine. So naturally this one is called ‘Rock Lobstah’! And a little nod to the B-52’s 😉

There are sooooooo many white and soft pink shells along the Maine coast. The boys and I loved collecting our favorites- each one different from the next. Like little fingerprints of the sea.

When I stopped weaving this one and sat back from it, it reminded me of the thousands of barnacles that cover the rocks and tide pools. Little bumps of white gathered on these grey stones with a sea plant or two drifting over them. I loved the variation of texture. Simple, but so beautiful! taken in Bar Harbor, Maine by @theurbanartstudio

Finally sharing this big custom logo weaving!! I installed this beauty at Links Private Wealth in Arlington Heights last week. This was a piece that taught me so much within my own weaving capabilities because of the size and design. I’ve never recreated a logo in a weaving before and I was up for this new challenge!

The stunning custom 36”x48” walnut frame was crafted by the uber talented @forma_customfurniture and I used recycled sari silk and wool roving for the woven center. The result is a design that is bold, luxe, and warm. One that welcomes you in and invites you to reach out and feel the textures.

Kyle, thank you SO much for putting your trust in me! I hope that all of your visitors feel a warm welcome when they walk through your front doors.

A very special ‘Fibers of Our Lives’ custom order 🤍

This one came from a client who I met through one of my workshops years ago. She continued taking classes and even organized a couple for me through the YMCA. Michelle has always been the kindest person with a warm, inviting light about her and genuine personality. I was honored when she messaged me asking if I would make three weavings for her and her daughters, with their wedding fabrics! 🥹

Each weaving is made with pieces from mom & daughters’ wedding dresses, mother of the bride dresses, and bridesmaid dresses from all 3 of their weddings that each of them wore. Such history, beautiful moments and memories wrapped up in these fabrics. Cue the tears! This is what makes these artworks just so incredibly special. While I cut, arranged, wove and tied each fiber, I listened to some classic wedding songs and even watched my long time favorite movie: ‘The Princess Bride’. Putting all those good feelings of new love, endless love, excitement and hope into each artwork.

I hope these weavings remind these women of their special days, the love they give and have, and the beauty of family. Thank you so much for trusting me with these, Michelle!! They were pure joy to create!

Happy Maine Coastal Collection Day!!
👏🏼👏🏼🌊🐚🪨🌲

This collection is inspired by my family’s trip to Maine earlier this year and has been patiently waiting to get out of my head and into my hands. It stretched my creativity in a new way with the earthy & muted color palette, delicate hand spun wool yarns, hidden designs, and little patterns that required a new kind of focus.

Maine is full of slow life, simple life, and glorious nature- everywhere!!! Each of these pieces are woven with that mindset and my hope is that they bring a slowness and peace to your space.

I invite you to swipe through and see the bits of Maine that inspired these pieces. After, explore the entire collection on my site (link in bio) and see if any call to you 🤍

Here’s to finding your quiet moment.

Another peek at the Maine Coastal Collection! 👀
The imperfect lines and tiny pattern variations in these weavings were made purposefully. Intended to keep you looking a bit longer, slowing down and having a quiet moment. We can all use that, right?

These weavings were made on my sweet little lap loom using hand spun fibers from the US, Canada, and Iceland. Soft, fuzzy, rough and smooth…like moss, sea plants, shells and bark. The textures of the coastline.

The full reveal is just two days away and I am so excited to share it with you! 🌊🐚🪨🌲

WOW Wauwatosa!!! WOW!!! 🤩
Thank you all for the overflowing kindness this weekend and for welcoming this one Illinois artist 🫣 with open arms and huge smiles to your town. The day began with following a magical, mystical sunrise on my drive up to being surrounded by the best booth buddies (@nourishnaturalproducts @msheahanstudio @dressy_isles ) to having really great conversations and some tears, and ending with fall colors bursting from tree leaves.

There are so many great stories to share from the day, so I’ll include them in the caption under each photo. They just have to be shared because they are so dang joyful!!

This really was the nicest day and so very much needed on my end. Heidi and @james_steeno_gallery , you put on such a heartfelt and beautiful event, truly. Thank you for letting me be a part of it!

The woman on the right said she has never seen anything so beautiful before and that she just wanted to cry while in my booth. I teared up, thanked her and told her that was the greatest compliment. When another person can feel the love you put into your work, and then you get to see that effect as they take it all in…wow! It is earth shattering and a happiness overload!

Her mom and I had the best conversation about creating art and exploring. Always finding new ways to learn and the power of that. So good!!

This couple was so sweet! Their son is also an artist who lives in California. They said he would be proud that they were purchasing a different kind of art for their home 🥰

And it was my last frame in this size and style- ever!! She hit the jackpot!

My first collectors of the day! We all had big smiles!

The shelf was a fan favorite- and I love that these two are giving one a forever home!

They came to my booth, left, then came back! I love when people take a moment to think about the piece they want to bring home. Purchasing art is a big deal!

For real- so cool! Fellow artist and kind people. Talking with these two just made my day so much brighter.

She bought this weaving to hang in the same space as another piece of art she purchased from a different artist at this pop up. Yes!!!

The ‘Maine Collection’ is just about ready for her reveal! I’ve created a series of small framed weavings and one large statement piece for this series. Each one intricately woven with imperfect organic lines, subtle color, and hidden details. Meant to bring a quiet and softness to your space, just like the coastal shores of Maine. 🌊🌲🪨

I’ll be sharing the full collection Friday Oct. 9th. Set those reminders! 😉
