Introducing our speaker, Vaani M. Sharma.

An entrepreneur, academician, writer and music industry professional, Vaani M. Sharma’s work spans literature, media and the arts. Her practice is rooted in a sustained engagement with creative expression and the ways in which popular culture and storytelling shape our understanding of people, places and contemporary life.

As President of the Darjeeling Literature Festival Society, Vaani is closely involved in shaping the Festival as a space where literature can meet music, cinema, history, memory and contemporary thought.

Vaani joins us at the Curtain Raiser of the Darjeeling Literature Festival 2026 on 11 October at the Darjeeling Gymkhana Club, bringing her varied perspectives to the conversation.

@wooffers_ in association with @starsofdarjeeling @darjeelinggoodwill @weekend.edit_ @studio.ohaana @pot_head.darjeeling & The Vaani Collective put together World Animal Day Fest on the 4th of October, 2026 at Chowrasta. It was an amazing Fest where students from St. Joseph’s College (Zoology Dept.), and Loreto Convent volunteered along with the rest.

The day was gloomy and raining, we managed to have the sit and draw competition, a dance performance, two skits, poetry recital, games and activities despite. The Sun came later, but right before the musical performance.

Between 15th July ‘26- 16 August ‘26: Mritkala by STARLING, brought Garima into the world and on stage. Some opportunities arrive without warning, and then, before you quite realise it, they begin to change the way you see yourself.

To stand up to an honour, to have your work received with such warmth, and to be recognised not merely for what you can do but for who you are; there is something deeply moving about that. It leaves you a little humbled, and a little unable to believe that something you never quite knew you were looking for had found its way to you.

Perhaps that is what made this feel so special. It did not feel like an arrival. It felt like being led somewhere I was meant to be.

And if this was the beginning of something, I hope it is the kind that stays, in the work, in the memories, and most of all, in the people.

Adarsh, thank you. Your thoughtfulness reached me in a way I don’t think I can adequately explain. There are gestures that pass, and there are gestures that stay with you. Yours will.

Minol da, you opened the door. But more than that, you made sure I felt welcome on the other side of it, with a warmth, generosity and love that I will always remember. I came through that door because you opened it for me; I stayed because of what I found there.

And to the rest of the gang, somewhere in all of this, I found people I know I want to keep finding my way back to.
