We are looking for our next Chief Executive Officer! After five years of dedicated service, Sema Gornall announced earlier this year that she is moving forward. We are incredibly grateful for the incredible work she has done not only for our organisation but also for the wider movement. As we are excited for Semaโ€™s next chapter, we are recruiting our next CEO to continue running our led-by-and-for organisation. This role is based in our Central London offices, with occasional national & international travel involved, as well as opportunities to lead partnerships with the UK government, the international non-profit community, and donors. Our new leader will work alongside the team, board and survivor activists we work with to shape policy, campaign and advocate nationally & globally to end Gender-Based Violence, fundraise and be a trusted spokesperson in the human rights movement. If you think you have what it takes, apply via our charityjob profile. Apply: https://lnkd.in/e5nFGgPR by @thevavengers
After 5 years leading The Vavengers as our Chief Executive Officer, Sema Gornall will be moving forward at the end of 2026. Semaโ€™s leadership made the start-up charity a globally recognised campaigning and convening organisation while also growing its deep roots in frontline support work. Her influence and work, building on the existing values of The Vavengers, turned us into a powerhouse with allies and supporters globally. Her legacy will continue to have a positive impact not only on The Vavengers but also on the wider gender-equality movement. Sema built systems for survivor activists to be platformed nationally and globally while utilising the power of strong partnerships with extraordinary pro bono support driven to our cause. With a business model of six-to seven-figure gifts in kind each year since she became our CEO, Sema is leaving behind an incredible workforce from legal, financial and management consultancy firms, supporting our movement. Sema also built the charityโ€™s flagship ambassadorship model, providing support, platforming, access, leadership opportunities and care to survivors of Gender-Based Violence, decolonising structures that worked against survivors. Semaโ€™s work built significant ties between sectors, enabled equality that works for everyone within our movement, drove legislative and practical policies, and mobilised resources from all sources. We made an animation film! โ€˜Story of the Girlโ€™ premiered at the UN HQ during UNGA80, and we were delighted to host our voice artist, Tracy Ifeachor, as our keynote speaker. The story was written and produced by our CEO, Sema Gornall, and made up of stories of all the survivors who work at The Vavengers. The girl is all the girls we have supported and continue to support, and we campaign, convene and connect so that we can build a world where no other girl is subjected to any form of violence. The film is voiced by global actor Tracy Ifeachor and Tracyโ€™s voice brought our story to life. The animation was created by the talented animator Lou Webb, with brand leadership of Megan Barclay production assistance of Simma Gershenson, and our volunteers. The moving music was composed by Tom Scott, and this film is a true representation of why we exist and why we continue fighting to end Gender-Based Violence even under the most challenging circumstances. Watch, share, talk about it to support our work, because when women and girls rise, we all thrive. by @thevavengers
New book announcement! ๐Ÿ“ข Our next book club pick is a thriller, and I'm so excited about it! ๐Ÿ“š Iris wakes up in hospital, not knowing why. She is told that she's had an AI device implanted into her brain, to "help" her. But did she really consent to it? And what can this mean for her humanity, if she no longer can access her own memories...? We'll be joined by @alicemcilroy_author and talk about what makes us human in the age of AI and especially what new technologies can mean for our bodily autonomy. ๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ You can book your free ticket on mybodymybookclub.com or straight through @findyourcliq ๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ The event is free, but if you can and would like to, we're raising funds for the Authors' Contingency Fund. ๐Ÿฉท #ai #bookstagram #bookclub #feminism #charityevent by @thevavengers
Today marks the International Day of the Girl Child. We envision a world where our work isnโ€™t needed; all girls globally have equal access to education and safety with opportunities to thrive in life. Investing in girlsโ€™ futures is not optional; itโ€™s what we must prioritise in order to live in a world where everyone thrives. by @thevavengers
Announcing our October book club pick! ๐Ÿ“ฃ ๐Ÿ“šโ™ฅ๏ธ Join us online on 15 October to discuss "Who's the Real Dad?" with authors Doug Sharples and Sanjay Sood-Smith (@thetravellinggays). ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ Doug and Sanjay grew up under Section 28 and spent years not knowing if having a family was even possible for them. This book tells how they and their surrogate Amber Stein got through IVF, a pandemic, a US travel ban, and a string of things that went wrong. It's part memoir, and part account of how surrogacy actually works, and a fascinating read. ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿผ Online via Google Meet, Thursday 15 October, 6:30-7:30pm. Free to register, with an optional donation to Birthrights, which works to protect human rights in pregnancy and childbirth. ๐Ÿ’ช Book your tickets @findyourcliq or through our website, mybodymybookclub.com ๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ We're thrilled to be joined by the authors for our chat, and to be supporting Birthrights' incredible work. We hope to see you there! โ™ฅ๏ธ ๐Ÿ“š ๐Ÿ˜Š #bookstagram #bookclub #surrogacy #lgbtqi #ivf by @thevavengers
Beyond the Silos: when women and advocates come together, absolute power is the result ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿพ These past two days have been significant in our shared goal to end FGM and protect our girls from harm. How? By centering survivors and bringing together activists, policymakers, government, funders, and movement leaders โ€” all united by one goal. We have been here. We have been ready. And now, we are moving faster than ever. Communities already have solutions. They have the people who are already creating the needed change in their small capacity. We are together, and together, we are stronger. Special thanks to @thevavengers @sarah_themovie for Sarahโ€™s Movement, @awra_org @womankindworldwide and @zinduka_e.v ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ #EndFGM #JusticeForGirls #JFG26 #BeyondTheSilos #SurvivorLed by @thevavengers

Before the summer holidays take over, we'd like to introduce you to our September book club pick. We're thrilled to have the author, Gillian Best, joining us to discuss her fantastic book, "Chronic: Understanding Pain". ๐Ÿ“š (And yes, you can already book your ticket on mybodymybookclub.com and or through @findyourcliq) ๐Ÿ’œ When millions of people are living with chronic pain, why is it still so misunderstood? And will there ever be a cure? Chronic pain is one of the great public health crises of our age โ€” virtually no-one is untouched, either living with it themselves or seeing their loved ones suffer. Yet it is a topic that remains in the shadows, too often brushed aside or treated as an afterthought. Why is that, and what can we do to change this? ๐Ÿค” Everyone is welcome to join our online chat, and we encourage people to donate to @arthritisuk if they can. Thank you, and we hope to see many of you there! ๐Ÿ˜Š ๐Ÿ“š #bookstagram #bookclub #chronicpain #charityevent #fundraising by @thevavengers

Partnership and allyship are at the heart of our work to end FGM and intersecting violence. We are so proud to have co-hosted a very successful convening together with @thevavengers and @awra_org with the support of @wallaceglobalfund At the glorious @armourerbrasier building, we welcomed global activists, NGOs, government members, livery companies and more. It was a night co-organised by Livery member & Vavengers CEO @semagornall and AWRA CEO @n_i_h_an and wouldnโ€™t have been possible without the support of wonderful Livery companies who poured in support for this night to be possible. Creating spaces that are safe, dignified and equal is one of our core missions we are proud of and this night just achieved that. We heard from Scott Wallace on why WGF is launching a 10m USD now to support causes working to end FGM and forced marriage, Sema Gornall talked on why we cannot take violence lightly and building the power structures & systems required to end violence, while Naimah Hassan spoke on the importance of intersectionality and how to support survivors with care. We also heard from Lucy Rawson incoming master of @clothworkers_co on the urgency to end FGM from a medical perspective and from @leylahusseinuk on the decades of work that have brought the movement forward. @payzeespeaks and Sir Max Hill spoke to the justice focus of the issue and why the time is now. This was a defining moment for our sector with so many of our sector partners helping to make this happen. FGM and forced marriage are issues that are at the front and centre of global issues today and we are grateful to all the leadership that goes into making this work happen. Platforms like this are what we need more of to drive resources to survivors and visibility of the rights issues facing women and girls globally. by @thevavengers
