If you’re building a business and waiting until you know exactly what you’re doing, you might be waiting a very long time.

One of the biggest lessons that comes with running a business is learning to be okay with getting things wrong sometimes.
We’ve made decisions that worked brilliantly, others we probably wouldn’t make again, and plenty that taught us something we could never have learned from a book or a business plan, because making mistakes is part of it.

When you look at an established business from the outside, you usually only see what exists today. You don’t see all the trial and error, the changes of direction, the difficult decisions and the moments of “well, we definitely won’t do that again.” 😂

So, especially if you’re at the beginning of your business journey, don’t put so much pressure on yourself to get everything right the first time. Sometimes the mistake is the thing that teaches you what to do next.

It sounds simple when you say it now, but when you’re starting a business, it’s so easy to think you need to have everything figured out from day one. The perfect space, the full team, all the equipment, all the details, and suddenly you’ve put a huge amount of pressure on yourself before you’ve even had the chance to learn what the business actually needs.

Starting smaller gives you room to learn, make mistakes, understand your customers and figure out what works before making the bigger investments. Would I change the journey? Probably not, because those decisions and mistakes taught me so much and helped shape @thevegboxcafe into what it is today. 💚

We absolutely loved hosting this event for mums to be at @thevegboxcafe

It was such a lovely day filled with honest conversations, expert advice and genuinely useful information, the kind of event where you leave having learned something, met new people and hopefully feeling a little more supported along the way.

One of the hardest parts of running a business? Making a decision you truly believe in when everyone around you is questioning it.

When you’re building something of your own, there will always be opinions. People will tell you what they think you should do, what they wouldn’t do, what’s too risky, or why something might not work. And while good advice is invaluable, there are moments when you have to trust the person who knows the business from the inside out - you!

Experience teaches you to listen differently. To take advice on board without automatically following it. To look at the numbers, understand your customers, learn from what has worked (and what hasn’t), and ultimately have enough confidence to make the decision that feels right for your business.

Not every decision will be perfect. We’ve certainly learned plenty of lessons along the way. But some of the decisions that were questioned the most at the time have turned out to be the ones we’re most grateful we trusted ourselves on.

That confidence doesn’t come overnight. It comes from doing, learning, making mistakes, adapting and getting to know your business better with every year that passes.
