This is Gillette Castle in East Haddam, Connecticut, owned by William Gillette.He was a stage actor famous for playing Sherlock Holmes. He had a dream: a retirement home, a castle on a hill — and he made it. He built this medieval-style stone castle in 1919 and lived here until 1937. The Dome That Welcomes Everyone! This is Bahá’í spiritual building in Wilmette, Illinois. You’ll find similar temples on different continents. This neo-classical building with lace-like concrete carvings was designed by Louis Bourgeois and completed in 1953. People around the world are welcome to pray here, no matter what your religion is or what you believe. This beautiful building is inspired by Persian/Iranian roots — the Bahá’í Faith began in Persia in the 1800s. The dome, 9 sides, and open doors all stand for unity: one God, one humanity.
