🎥 Archive cut

DMX released his second album in December 1998, only months after his debut, and it entered the Billboard 200 at No. 1. “No Love 4 Me” put a Ruff Ryders newcomer named Drag-On next to him over a Swizz Beatz beat, one of the records that carried the album.

Who remembers Drag-On’s verse on this one? 👀

Rest in Peace, DMX 🕊️

Jadakiss, Styles P and Sheek Louch started out in Yonkers, New York, as The Bomb Squad. In 1994, they appeared on Main Source’s album Fuck What You Think before later becoming The Warlox. Their demo track “I Got the Power,” produced by Jaz-O, reached Bad Boy Records founder Puff Daddy through Mary J. Blige and was later featured on his debut album, No Way Out in 1997.

After signing with Bad Boy, they became known as The LOX. Their debut album, Money, Power & Respect, was a major success. The album went platinum in 1998, but the group were not happy with the label’s radio friendly direction. Determined to make the music they wanted, they launched the famous “Free The LOX” campaign, fighting for their release from Bad Boy.

They eventually moved to Ruff Ryders, returning in 2000 with We Are the Streets, a harder edged album that better reflected their sound and vision. In 2001, they established D-Block Records, creating a home for their own music and building a movement that extended beyond the group itself.

More than two decades later, Jadakiss, Styles P and Sheek Louch continue to carry the LOX name, releasing music both together and individually. Hopefully, it won’t be too long before the three reunite for another full-length album 💿
