Part 1: As I sit and reflect. In 2013, I visited @urwerkgeneve for the first time. What started as a casual trip became the beginning of a deep, creative brotherhood with @mfmontrose, Felix Baumgartner, @justogleit and @romig21. Over the years, we bonded over wild ideas, space exploration, and design dreams. Along the way the idea hit us, what if we created a watch inspired by the SR-71 Blackbird. Through design elimination, we strongly felt the Urwerk EMC was the right watch. We imagined creating a watch that’s not just inspired by the SR-71, but built with actual pieces of the plane and the blessing from the pilots who flew it. Fast forward many years, through design changes and new ideas, Martin and I designed something incredibly cool along with many other adventurous ideas for time keeping in the world of space exploration. where our passions dwell deep!

I spent years collecting SR-71 parts with @romig21, building a vision of a timepiece that felt like it belonged on the wrists of Blackbird pilots. @mfmontrose, @justogleit, @romig21 and I pushed this idea forward, designing a machine that fused precision, legacy, and storytelling. We filmed a short film in LA and Switzerland of our design process and experience with the Blackbird pilots, met some of the engineers, had a amazing food and brought this watch to life across California to Switzerland. Through tears, laughter, and relentless passion. It became more than a project, it was a tribute and a lifetime experience. And after 15 years of designing for other brands, this is the first watch that carries my name and it’s honestly the most special timepiece I’ve been a part of creative directing. To me, this experience will never leave my heart, you just had to have been there to understand what we all felt bringing this to life. This is such a great moment as we close the chapter of the Urwerk EMC at its 10th anniversary. A highlight of this project is the fact that we are one of under 500 people in the world that I sat inside a Lockheed Martin SR-71 plane. I don’t always talk about the designs I’m working on whether it be during the process or even after they’ve launched. Sometimes, I’m late to sharing them because I’m too busy or deep into the creative trenches, living and breathing the life of a designer.

But this one? This one is special. Designed by yours truly in collaboration with @lepee_1839, this piece is a love letter to Hollywood’s most legendary time-travel films like, Back to the Future (1985) and The Time Machine (1960/2002). Taking inspiration from the Flux Capacitor Base Reactor + The Travel Machine, It captures the essence of time travel, with a facelift. Call me Surgeon Sarko lol. SPECIAL PROJECT - SR-71 Blackbird Watch

I can finally disclose that I contributed to the creation of an SR-71 Blackbird watch.

Introducing the EMC SR-71.

Together with Martin Frei @mfmontrose from URWERK @urwerkgeneve, Jason Sarkoyan @thewatchdesigner and I from Dreamland Aerospace @dreamlandaerospace have been looking for a watch that best reflects the DNA of the SR-71 Blackbird. We identified the EMC which has already won several awards.

No other watch is as special as the Blackbird.

We adapted the design and added mission flown titanium from the SR-71 Blackbird and the EMC SR-71 was born!

At March Field Air Museum @marchfieldairmuseum we met with many of the Blackbird crews and… STAY TUNED!

I´m so proud the project has caught the attention of the New York Times @nytimes and HODINKEE @hodinkee

The EMC SR-71 is available at URWERK @urwerkgeneve

One of none, next level mechanical watchmaking. The 1/1 Jean Dunand Shabaka. The likelihood of someone seeing one of these in the flesh again is probably one in a million lol. One of my favorite timepieces ever created by the late great Jean Dunand with a Christophe Claret movement.
