Midlife + Perimenopause=B!tch (thumbs up 👍 if you agree)

Life lately has been, finally eliminate one issue & another pops up 😭
Perimenopause symptoms are like teen acne. Can never seem to get rid of it!

The more recent headache has been morning joint pain ... where every where there's a joint, there's stiffness and achiness.

Why?
If your cartilage (70% to 80% water) is not properly hydrated and your joint fluids are low, your fingers, elbows and knees don't want to quite work when you need them to

Without the proper minerals, you lose the balance and volume to keep your body lubricated

In the joints is a gel like substance called synovial fluid. Lack of minerals = reduction of volume = stiff & achy

How to correct?
Literally just one 12 to 16 Oz of electrolytes liquids a day .. could be coconut water, natural electrolytes powder in water, and even
Foods such as
🍌 bananas for potassium + magnesium
🥑 Avocado also rich in potassium + magnesium, add a sprinkle of high mineral salt for sodium
🍅 Tomatoes also high in potassium
🥛 Almond milk, cheese 🧀 or yogurt for calcium
🍃Spinach also high in potassium

If you want something to sip on through the day, highly recommend ReLite electrolytes powder in water with No sugar and the electrolytes you need for your body to retain hydration

You've carried the load of your family and home and now your body is SCREAMING from the stress ...
Aches, pains, high blood pressure, your body isn't working like it used to ...

Cortisol is the stress hormone and can set off high blood pressure... the known silent k.iller

Take just 10 minutes to close your eyes, take a breath and block the world out because Your health depends on it.

In fact, take those 10 minutes now.

Breathe in deeply for 5 full seconds, Hold for 5, breathe fully OUT for a solid 5 seconds and wait 5 seconds before repeating.

When you get used to this, your mind will feel like it's somewhere else and the feeling will make you want to meditate regularly

Meditation activates your parasympathetic system shifting your body from a state of fight to calm

It reduces inflammation, blood pressure, heart rate and decreases the amygdala for better emotional regulation.

It literally gives your body time to unwind, relax and recharge

Tell me, do you regularly meditate or will this be the 1st in a regular habit?

We're in a time when traditional doctors are quick to prescribe medications with side effects like de.ath, more pain and, as Hermione said, even Worse!

Here are 5 things to avoid & 5 to add to your life

DON'T
1. ❌️ consume ultra processed foods (many canned and packaged foods) these contain chemicals & ingredients that can destroy your gut and even sit in your stomach vs digesting. They often lack any nutrients. For prepackaged foods (like tomatoes, go with glass jarred)

2. ❌️ consume plain or tap water.
Plain water is missing electrolytes that actually hydrate and add minerals to your cells. Tap water is normally filled with chemicals and toxicity from the pipes.

3. ❌️ sit for hours. In this age of sitting at computers, staring at our phones and binge watching shows, our bodies are losing muscle mass and elasticity.

4. ❌️ be a lone wolf. Our minds and physiology crave and need community. One of the reasons a small town in Japan has the most centegenarians is because of community. Humans need connection, in person.

5. ❌️ be content without purpose. Doom scrolling, even reading all day has no Purpose - meaning. Your mind has no reason to look forward to something. Another reason that town has so many centegenarians. They have Purpose daily.

DO
1. ✅️ eat eggs each morning, meats, fruits and vegetables daily. Your body needs the nutrients these each provide that aren't found in the others.

2. ✅️ get sunlight in the morning & evening without sunscreen, hat or sunshades. Don't block the good benefits the sun provides for your body and mind.

3. ✅️ exercise daily- walk, lift weights, use body weight (ie: push-ups) to strengthen muscles, heart, vessels, lungs and brain. You don't need to run or do any heavy workouts.

4. ✅️ eat more fiber and protein to help your body digest better, improve the gut , tissues, heart, muscle, skin and bone health.
In midlife, this support is needed more than ever.

5. ✅️ say Yes to visiting with people more (back to community). A coffee meet up, Bible study, girls night out, book club;just say Yes to these. I say this as an Ambivert whose initial thought is to decline 😄

It's not coffee or alcohol or, frankly, any of the usual suspects.

Look, I get it, perimenopause, being a midlife parent with kids in college and aging parents, you're caring for loved ones on both sides of your life and, honestly? It's stressful AF.

Cortisol is one of the most difficult hormones to reduce because it's not just about food or drinks, it's about environment and sometimes, that's not easy to change.

Over the weekend I decided to reduce one thing I felt was a bit stress inducing ... social media.
I completely cut out doom scrolling and OMG!! I slept SO much better! (You're in perimenopause? So, IYKYK)

I wasn't mindful come Monday and BAM 💥 I could literally Feeeel the Cortisol creeping in and creeping up

Our mental health is not talked about enough when it comes to midlife and perimenopause and it's a key factor to why we get "in a rut",
Find ourselves unmotivated to workout, unmotivated to take steps for self care, you get it.

So, stop doom scrolling - set a purpose for your time on social media and set a max time ⏲️.

Your sleep and mental health will thank you.

Perimenopause is a feral beast!

I didn't realize how slowly it was taking over my everyday life, physically & mentally

I was drained all the time, I was unfocused, couldn't ever be present and I was too hot or too cold constantly

I was exhausted

The midday naps I thought was just from not sleeping well at night
Then I thought my busyness finally caught up but when it was almost daily, I knew it had to be something else

That's when a deep dive showed me my mitochondria- the powerhouse of the cells (learned that in middle school science!) was malfunctioning.

And it wasn't just Me ... it's anyone in perimenopause, as early as 35!

Estrogen and progesterone drops affect mitochondria functions and when those hormone levels decrease, so does how our powerhouse works. This cascades to a drop in so many activities in our bodies and, hence, our energy levels.

One thing I do to help my energy is taking a few little plant pills - chlorella. Green and natural. Nothing added.

Iron moves oxygen through our bodies, antioxidants reduce oxidative stress, sweeps away heavy toxin buildup and the vitamins and minerals (B, C, Magnesium) help ATP (mitochondria energy) work properly and helps reduce free radicals harming our body.

And... it's unique mix of nucleic acids and peptides help with cellular repair which becomes more difficult as we age.

Since taking, I'm more focused(stay on task, get into a flow state, read with interest!) and can actually workout midday (my preferred time)

If you want your life back without taking meds and digging into the Science yourself, be sure to follow for more Wellness based on Science, not trends.

You're not suffering peri-symptoms
No... you've already LIVED!

🌓 the late nights out from 16 to 36
🔑 home alone since 6 years old
🍺 did beer funnels & had pitchers of cocktails with 6 liquors + beer and thought it tastes great 😝
🏎 rode in convertibles with no seatbelts
⛑️ flew down streets on bikes without a helmet
🌙stayed out past dark playing in the streets
🏫 walked a mile to school, just for fun
🚲 biked all over town, all summer (& see 2 above)
🪵 used to take shortcuts through woods

Now, we're TIRED!

We're also the ones who won't let our own kids do most of these things today 😄

If you've lived any of this life, comment GenX and share with your gen-x bestie by @thewellnessdash

What would happen if we stopped chasing and
Just stopped to
Rest
Revel in the now
Have peace in the present?

Reflect on who we are today
Instead who we can become tomorrow or who we were yesterday?

As a mom, it's easy to wonder where that 18 year old with enormous dreams went
And who am I now with kids Raised,
Spouse figuring out themselves and feeling like you're picking up pieces vs living a put together life?

What if we look at the blessings and have faith that the dreams we still have are still coming, Now that we can focus on ourselves?

Instead of chasing, attract what is meant for You. by @thewellnessdash

You're not too early and you're not too late ... you're right on time.

This is what I have to remind myself

My plan is not God's plan and it's taken until I was 50 to learn to be patient and have faith that life will turn out exactly as it's supposed to

It may be messy
There may be tears
Frustration
Confusion and
Anger but along the way
There will be
Lessons
Laughter
Love

And you hold on to those last few to remind yourself, that's what life is...

So
Be patient
Have faith
