Together, we can change the course of the HIV epidemic...one woman at a time.
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Many people living with #HIV develop problems that involve the nervous system. The nervous system controls thinking, movement, sensations, and feelings.

There are two parts of the nervous system: 1️⃣ the brain and spinal cord and 2️⃣ the peripheral nerves. The peripheral nerves run throughout the body like webbing, connecting all parts of the body to the brain and spinal cord. Any disorder or problem that involves damage to the peripheral nerves is called peripheral neuropathy or PN.

It is important not to ignore symptoms of PN, which include:

▶️ Tingling
▶️ Pins and needles
▶️ Numbness
▶️ Itching
▶️ Feet or hands feeling like they are asleep
▶️ Stumbling when you walk
▶️ Feet or hands throbbing or cramping at night
▶️ Sudden sharp shooting pains

It's #FactSheetFriday and we invite you to learn more today about PN and start a conversation with your doctor if you are experiencing symptoms.

HIV doesn’t have one face, one story, or one experience.

Diagnosed with HIV at just 20 years old in rural Georgia, Ciarra Brown shares how her diagnosis challenged common misconceptions about who can be affected by HIV and why awareness and education are so important, especially for young women.

In yesterday’s Vital Conversations IG Live, Black Health President and CEO Shirley Torho sat down with Ciarra Brown, Director of Programs at @thewellprojecthiv, for an honest conversation about HIV awareness, resilience, and advocacy.

Watch this powerful clip and join us in breaking down stigma, challenging misconceptions, and empowering our communities through knowledge.

Jyoti Dhawali has been a long time blogger, community advisory board member, and global ambassador for The Well Project, but she is an advocate in her own right – a woman who has not let challenges defeat her.

“This was an emotional moment for me knowing that I was not there simply as a person living with #HIV, representing The Well Project... I was there as a woman, as an advocate, as a changemaker, as a deaf person, and as someone who has spent years turning my own journey into lived experience for others.” @fauzibrat_jeh

October 10 is World Mental Health Day and the theme this year is 𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗱: 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀, 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲.

While the reasons are unclear, studies have shown that, in the general population, women are two times more likely to experience #depression than men. Further, women living with HIV across the gender spectrum are even more likely than women in the general population to experience challenges to their mental health.

For this reason, and in honor of #WorldMentalHealthDay, we are sharing selections from our collection of resources and personal stories addressing #mentalhealth for women living with #HIV.

Bones play many important roles in your body. They support you, help you move, protect some of your organs from injury, and more.

🅳🅸🅳 🆈🅾🆄 🅺🅽🅾🆆❓

• Every day, your body removes old bone and adds new bone in its place

• Using tobacco products can increase your chances of bone loss

• When you exercise, your muscles pull against your bones, which helps keep your bones healthy and strong.

#BoneLoss and weakened bones occur more often in people living with HIV. Experts are not exactly sure why. It could be due to HIV itself, HIV drugs—or the fact that people living with HIV are living longer and experiencing more of the regular effects of getting older. People living with #HIV are more likely to experience three bone conditions: osteopenia, osteoporosis, and osteonecrosis.

Read more about bone health, steps you can take to help keep yourself healthy, and more about specific types of #bonedisease ⤵️

The Well Project is excited to kick off its 2026 Women's Research Initiative on HIV/AIDS (WRI) convening "Aging with HIV Since Birth: The Journey of Women Lifetime Survivors," moderated by Bridgette Picou (Director of Partnerships and Stakeholder Interests) and Ciarra "Ci Ci" Brown (Director of Programs). Over the course of two days, a group of 34 multidisciplinary, multisectoral experts will discuss what (scarce) research we have related to lifetime survivors and prioritize a research and policy agenda around the areas we need to address and explore.

Stay tuned for more information and outcomes (and photos) from the 2026 WRI in the coming weeks and months. In the meantime, if you are interested in learning more, you can check out our series of webinars centered on lifetime survivors:
