HAPPY NINTH BIRTHDAY, RUBY! 🥳

I say this every year: it's so strange to think she came here when she was three months old. Ruby has always been a tiny ball of fearless energy, although I think she's no longer "tiny" and is very, very floofy.

My little bug catcher. My nosy, brave lion. I love that her idea of a cuddle involves climbing under the covers and lying against me so she can knead me. I remember once when I woke up with this soft, fluffy thing against my back that I thought it was a moth in my bed, but it was just her.

Ruby is that little ray of sunshine who leads you in circles around the house and straight to the back door. She eats spiderwebs (so she's going to be Spider-Woman so she can be with her boyfriend, Spider-Man) and lies in my bed for hours so I can't make it.

Another thing I say every year: she shows me how to be brave. Ruby marches to the beat of her own drum. She does what she wants when she wants it, and does so bravely. She's not just a cat—she's a little lioness who is so kind and gentle and fun. I love that she's the glue of the family—the other two always enjoy her company, even when she's being a bit much. She suffers from FOMO, and is always curious about the people who come over. She's my bug catcher who's sometimes on annual leave when I need her most. Open a cupboard and she's already inside.

She's Mum's cat through and through. I will always remember how Mum asked everyone she knew whether she should get a boy or girl cat, and that when we met Ruby, she was so enamoured by this little creature who fell asleep in her arms. She named her Ruby because she's precious, and she is. Life would be so dull without Ruby Roo.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SCARLET! 🥳💕

My bossiest baby is 13! It's strange to think she's 13 now, when she looks like a little doll and behaves like such a baby.

My life has been so full because of her. Without her, I wouldn't have Iris and Ruby. Without her, I wouldn't have a boss, a bed bug, and an alarm clock who can sometimes tell the time perfectly and other times not so much. She has become so confident over the years, and I have loved seeing her grow and change.

She's such a lovely, kind soul. I love that the lesson I always write about each year is her teaching me to be myself and stick to my guns. It's Scarlet's way; there is no highway.

Thank you for the endless conversations, my girl. I am so glad that I get woken by you and get to come home to you meowing at me like you haven't eaten in a week. My little Scarface; one of my soulmates. 🫶🏽

Nine years ago, I came home with one of my three besties: Iris. Nine years ago, I met Scarlet, Iris' mum and a cat I never thought I'd see again.

I always like to believe Iris was waiting for me. 10 June was a special date before she came into our lives, and it's even more special now.

Nine years of the loudest, cutest and cuddliest traffic hazard in the house. 💛

HAPPY SCARLET DAY! 💛

It's strange to think we adopted Scarlet eight years ago. She currently lies beside me, taking up so much space for such a small cat, but I guess that's Scarlet for you: all attitude, so much fur, and confidently taking up the space she knows is hers. I love my little alarm clock. 💛

HAPPY NINTH BIRTHDAY, IRIS! 🥳 💛

I can't believe the girl I got at six months old is now nine! Life would be utterly furless if it weren't for her. She's my timid girl (who is becoming a little less timid) with a heart of gold and one of the best unimpressed faces you'll ever see.

Iris gives me cuddles when I need them and even when I don't. She head bumps me. She turns her head for kisses. She doesn't come to her name, leading me to think she's gotten out of her enclosure and calling her name for thirty minutes straight only to find her behind my pillows on my bed asleep. (True story.) Recently, she's shown herself to be a mathematician, calculating the distance between the chair and the gate keeping her inside the cat zone. And, yes, she jumped out twice.

I have to look down when I walk around the house because she has no respect for the road rules and when I have right of way. Iris used to be so quiet, and now she's talking so much at me. She's the cat who sits at the window on a 30C day, watching something that I can't see.

Iris is such a sweet girl, even when she's trying to push you out of your seat. More often than not, she's successful. Sometimes we end up sharing. She's such a patient, caring cat, who knows what she wants and isn't afraid of going for it — although she does it differently to the other two.

I'm so glad Mum encouraged me to adopt her. Talk about a little being changing your life. Happy birthday, Iris. You'll never read this because you're too important and are extremely busy, but I'll continue to tell you, your mum and sister how much I appreciate the fact I can never wear black clothes without having fur on them. 💛

HAPPY EIGHTH BIRTHDAY, RUBY! 🎈💛

What can be said about Ruby? She came to us at three months old, and today she turns eight years old. She was the cat I got as a little baby, and it's crazy to think how big and fluffy she's grown. She was always such a big personality — so fearless and patient and nosy — and I am glad Ruby never lost what made her Ruby Roo.

She's Mum's cat through and through. She drops dramatically on the ground for pats and attention. She stands by the back door to go out onto *her* decking and take over her mosaic table and lie in the sun.

Ruby is my determined bug catcher. She is fearless, something I wish to be. She's so unapologetically herself. I love when she sleeps on the bed with me because she doesn't sleep vertically so I have leg space, but horizontally so I have less. Her idea of cuddling is crawling under the covers to knead me while her bum is in my face.

I am forever grateful for my little lion, and I know Mum watches out for her, as she does my other two gremlins.

Happy birthday to my Ruby Roo. The last few photos are of her as a baby. I can't believe she wasn't as fluffy as she is now! 🥹💛

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SCARLET! 🥳

My mama bear turns twelve today. TWELVE. She is the embodiment of the "I'm just a baby" meme.

There are not enough words to describe how much she means to me, and how happy I am we get to celebrate twelve years of Scarlet. She is my most stubborn cat, yet she has taught me that even stubborn cats can change — she's now become a lap cat, a TV cat, and is the only cat who plays with the toy that hangs off my office door (see a video, but know she gets more aggressive than that) — among the many other roles she embodies.

Scarlet is the type of cat who will meow at me to follow her, where she'll either lead me to the lounge room and wait for me to sit so she can claim my lap. Or she will guide me to the "sun room" so she can lie down in the sun and get pats from me. We play video games together until my legs go dead. She's so funny when she wants to go outside — she acts like the door is lava and approaches it in the slowest slowmo imaginable that it would put Zack Snyder to shame.

I could write more, but I would just be rehashing things I've posted before.

Without her, I wouldn't have Iris, and without Iris, I wouldn't have Ruby or Scarlet. She really was the beginning of everything.

Happy birthday to my darling Scarface. You are a more terrifying godfather than Marlon Brando. 💛💛💛

Happy Adoptaversary to the girl who changed my life. I can't believe Iris has been with us for eight years. 💛

I remember where I was when Mum called me and told me I was adopting a cat. I knew Iris was mine when Mum sent me her meowdel shots. I got her when she was six months old, and I am forever grateful that people before me had the audacity to overlook her because she was destined for me. I picked her up on 10 June, which was the day I was meant to be born. If that isn't fate, then I'm a bear dressed as a girl.

She is my cuddle bug and the reason why I now have to look down every time I walk. She is my praying catnis. She sometimes hides in new spots and drives me into paranoia and fear when I'm looking for her throughout the house, calling her name, because I want to say goodbye and ensure she isn't locked in a wardrobe. I love seeing how she's changed over the years, starting as a quiet thing and growing into a demanding, vocal cat.

She was there for me during the hardest time of my life, and I will forever be grateful for her companionship. I wouldn't have my Ruby and Scarlet if it wasn't for Iris. It's crazy to think how much time has passed since I brought her home and wondered how the hell I was going to look after a cat.

I named her after Iris West because she's a badass who grew to stand up for herself and become confident in her own skin, and that's my Iris to a T. 💛

Today, we celebrate the anniversary of Scarlet coming to live with us seven years ago. There are so many things I could say about this girl, but I will keep it short. She has changed so much over the years, growing comfortable and confident. She is my senior girl, the cat who comes to me when she feels I've stayed up too late and meows at me to go to bed, and who wakes me up at 4am for food (and then sometimes refuses to eat it).

If she were a cuddler, she'd be one of the best. She lives by the code of "It's my way or my way, there is no highway". You learn things from the animals you bring into your family, and what she has taught me is the power to advocate for myself. No one fucks with Scarlet because Scarlet doesn't take anyone's shit.

It hasn't been the easiest journey with Scarlet (at least, in the beginning), but it's so worth it. Welcome older cats into your family. We adopted her at four and have loved every moment of it. She is gorgeous inside and out, and I would be nowhere without my reading and tv watching buddy.

I guess I didn't keep it short lol. Happy anniversary, Scarface! 💛 I love that my first baby's mother came to us around or on Mother's Day lol.
